Ok so, is there like a secret way to catch critters, because something doesn't really add up. Most of them are pretty much "Catch-able" because their " ! " bar doesn't really increase that much. But some of them become aware of your presence so fast that it's literally impossible to catch them without them freaking out and running away. I have both light feet I and II and its still a bit hard to get those.

I usually try to dash in their direction to catch them quick, or you can hold the catch button to inch closer to catch them

I try to do that but some critter's bars fill up too quickly 😭

It's definitely a mechanic issue, and i heard they are trying to rework bug catching a bit.
You can still lower their bars by distancing away for a few moments by the way.

Walk away when they notice you, then try to approach from the front, preferably while they're also moving forward towards you (not foolproof, but works pretty well most of the time, even with the harder to catch bugs)
