You can definitely catch them! I thought it is impossible but after a few tries it worked, you just have to be patient. At first I thought the bar drops down to the beginning but then I realized it does not. I don’t know how to explain it, but give it a few tries!

I pay attention to the stress wiggles above the bar. If it's too high they snap. I wait till they're not struggling to pull em in. Zelda taught me well lol

@harsh thunder The problem is that some fish snap the line even when you are doing nothing, aka: You are not pulling them in and they STILL snap the line.

If it's not the fishing rod, then I'm not sure what you CAN do, honestly. Either it's a fish that isn't catcheable yet with what the game gas so far or the system needs balancing, probably.

Is there a way to just...sit there when you first grab it and not press down even once? I saw the pull animation a couple times where it looked like you maybe just tapped the button. I'm wondering if this fish auto-fails if you apply any pressure whatsover when it's still in fight mode, and the trick is to just NOT tap the button until it's been calm for a period of time. Wait it out.

Don't always hold the mouse click. When the fish is fighting back, just keep clicking instead of holding the mouse click.

🤝 i came to ask this exact same question. this fish by the lighthouse i grab it and within seconds it breaks the line before i can click at all 😭 maybe it is tied to fishing level? i only have 5 levels rn, but i do have the improved rod and it doesn't seem to help at all

even the fish in zarah's boat, when they bite they're already struggling so I have to left click continuously but just the smallest click would make the line break so hopefully they balance the fishing mechanic in the next update 😭

Also struggling with this, sometimes when I'm holding the reel button it's not registering either, then once it does start struggling and I let go it nearly snaps the line. After about 20 tries I just gave up and assumed it was a fish that would require a rod higher than the improved rod we currently have :/

I'm struggling with this too. I fought a fish at the lighthouse for about 5 real minutes, but couldn't get it above 1/3 of the bar for more than a second. I tried pressing and holding the left click and rapidly clicking, but neither seemed to yield much results. Also, the progress bar wouldn't continue to fill up until after about 1.5 seconds of pressing/rapid clicking. I honestly think fishing level might have something to do with it (i'm only fishing level 2 🥲) have strong arms 1 & 2, and an improved rod.

^ this T__T I agree, it's either more talents needed in the talent tree or a higher level rod. Hopefully that specific fish isn't needed for the second bundle, or I'm screwed lol

I've been seeing in the dev notes that they're working on both advanced skills AND limiting the appearance of legendary fish. I have a feeling this is a legendary and is supposed to be really hard to catch. My other guess is that there's a food you can make or buy that will give a bonus to fishing in the future. Stardew did something similar that was extremely helpful with legendary fish.

I made a video how I catch it, put my mouse in the corner so you can see when I click. The bar needs to often drop back quite a bit. My fishing level is only 3 and I use the improved rod. Maybe that helps someone 🙂

this is nice of you tbh but its definitely not the same kind of squirrley fishing some of the videos in the thread above show - there are breaks in the line tension when you're casting that let you reel it in which are not present in the others. which makes me wonder if what we're experiencing is a bug or one of the 'legendary' fish that are not catchable yet

👍 i think the ones that keep breaking the line are winter ocean fish -i've been getting it at the lighthouse dock and so have a few others in the thread

what about fish in the lake near lady flower, it got hooked but whenever I press the reel button, the progression bar is not moving at all.

I am having the same issue. No matter what I do, doesn't go passed the 1st bar and I have tried a 4pm to.
