How do I get books for the library?

You need ro unlock Museum level 2 and the you will unlock the ability to find them

Theres a library we fill?! Is museum level 2 once the founders hall is added?

Not implemented yet but once you get a certain heart level for milli well at least for me.. never tried it without hearts theres a mini game in the future for the library 🙂

Damaged books are generally found by digging up the beach. They appear randomly, just like coffers 🙂

I haven't found a damaged book in the cave yet, only the beach
My guess is it's water-damage, so you wouldn't find it in the mine area
They're not found in coffers, by the way - they pop up as individual 'damaged books'

I've tried to clean one at the museum like it told me too and can't figure it out.

You interact with the library counter, not the museum

Is there a cutscene where we are told about the books and the library? I’m at the end of winter and upgraded my museum and haven’t seen anything about books nor have I come across one

No, there's no cutscene. They only show up when you randomly hoe the beach (not necessarily at clover spots)

I have found a lot of books but when I go to the counter at the library, it says I don't have any. But I dug up at least five

They are added to the library, you no longer hold them in your bag. You should find books at the shelves.
