You can setup the Steam-facilitated controller keybinds, I believe someone made a community set for this game, though I haven't tested it out.

There are several in community layouts. I tried 3 out until I found one I liked. I did tweak one I'm using a little but so far I've been happy with how well game playes on the steam deck
