I don't have any craft recipes and I checked the stores they don't have fodder. I'm just worried cause I've got chicks and I fear I'm missing a step.

It's hay. You get that by putting fiber into the mill 😉

And it will automatically be inside the coop's storage bin thingie

You can buy hay at the ranch :)

I don't have a mill yet and I've found the animals' food lasts a long time

I think it's because food for animals is bugged at the moment, haven't seen it dissapear as of yet, then again, my animals are always out and about with grass in their paddock

Usually the mechanics are like, if they eat grass outside they'll be okay but if they're inside they need the fodder. I haven't seen mine disappear yet, but there is no rot mechanic either (at the moment)

I can't say with certainty that's what the devs are doing for this one but I hope so ! The grass starters for outside make a lot more sense then, and help people without a mill except on rainy days :)
