Can't seem to feed my cow?

I think I might be missing something here, I have 3 hay in my inventory, but I can't add any to my barn to feed my cow? Do I have to do something else to the hay first?

You need to put the hay on the ''bench'' on your right. That box is when you have a mill producing hay. It will fill that box.
