Unfortunately, I haven't tried it with Steam since I have few games in there. I did try it with Origin and GoG launcher and it works for me. I assume it will work the same.

I back up save files constantly, and also move them to my laptop when I feel like continue playing in bed
And I haven't noticed any glitches related to replacing a save file :)
