What is Coral Island?
Coral Island is a re-imagined farming sim game set on a tropical island. Grow crops, nurture animals, befriend the islanders, save coral, and much more.

Coral Island Early Access is OUT NOW!
Find us on Steam http://swg.gg/twcorals

How much does the game cost?
$24.99, but please check Steam for the regional prices.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
The price won’t increase during Early Access. For 1.0, the price may increase, but we’re not sure about that yet.

Coral Island is a vibrant and laid-back reimagining of farm sim games. Be who you want and experience enchanting island living at your own pace—live off the land, nurture animals, build relationships with a diverse cast of townsfolk, and make the world around you a more vital and harmonious place.

#

=On Early Access=

Why Early Access?
Our goal is to make a really good and enjoyable farm sim game, as cliche as that might sound. We believe the surest way of doing this is by involving a passionate community into the process of development, helping shape Coral Island into the game we all know it can be.

What kind of updates are planned for Coral Island?
We plan to incorporate new areas to explore, stories to experience, more things to do, and more customization options. We’ve put together a roadmap to give you a rough idea of what to expect! See the roadmap here coral-game-info!

How long is Coral Island going to be in Early Access?
Coral Island will be in Early Access until we (the developers and you, our early supporters) are happy with the amount of content and level of polish the game has to offer. We expect this phase to take about one year but may take longer, depending on player feedback. Please continue to check our roadmap for more information!

What can I expect in the Early Access/Game Preview?
Coral Island released into Early Access/Game Preview in October 2022 with four playable seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. You can farm with each season’s respective crops and try other activities such as ranching, diving, fishing, and bug-catching. Though the selection is still limited, there will be merchants that you can purchase customizations from. Please remember that Coral Island is incomplete since the game is still in Early Access.

Everything is still a work-in-progress, including the environment, assets, story, explorable mining/diving levels, NPC portraits, UI, etc. Being in Early Access also means that some things may not work as intended.

We’ve worked hard to ensure that your experience is whole and worth playing, but if you experience bugs, please let us know so we can fix them. If you prefer to play through the complete game instead, kindly wait for our full game release. We’re excited for you to play Coral Island!

#

Which features will be in active development during Early Access/Game Preview?

  • The Winter season will be receiving some significant enhancements during the Early Access period - please pardon the dust in the meantime!
  • Diving and mining maps
  • The combat experience and progression
  • The festival experience for each season
  • Storylines and heart events for NPC
  • Deeper relationship mechanics, like marriage and children
  • and many more!

How will I know when I’ve played through the game’s Early Access/Game Preview content?
After advancing through four playable seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, players can continue to farm and enjoy other activities, including ranching, diving, fishing, and bug-catching. The story is still in active development, so you’ll need to wait until a future update to continue experiencing the full storyline.

Will my save files carry over with each new update in Coral Island?
Carrying over saves will be handled on a per-update basis. Our goal is to maintain your save files as we update the game. However, some updates may fundamentally change the game. When this happens, all progression data will be reset, except for gold, inventory, farm layout, interior, and mastery.

How do I report bugs or give feedback?
In-game, you can select ‘Feedback’ in the Options Menu to report bugs or give feedback that will be sent directly to the development team. You can also share your feedback here on Discord at #🤝coral-feedback

=On being a Kickstarter backer=

I’m an Alpha player. Why didn’t I get Early Access key on PC?
As Early Access is only on Steam, please make sure you choose Steam as your platform. Switch and other consoles do not have Early Access.
If you choose Steam and still don't have the code, you can reach out to our modmail or support email at Support@stairwaygames.com

I’m a backer and received my Steam game key. How do I redeem it?

  1. Open Steam and log into your account.
  2. Click the “Games” menu option at the top of the Steam client.
  3. Choose “Activate a Product on Steam…”
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process using the key provided below.

How do I redeem my __ (mythical pet, crown, clothing, etc.)?
You will receive redemption codes for those items after PC’s full release. They will be account bound, so no matter how many saves you make of the game, you will be able to access those items and pets in each one.

Can I still support the Kickstarter?
Unfortunately, Kickstarter is only for a limited time and already ended in 2021.
If you want to support us, we are preparing something for the future.
Stay tuned!

I back Coral Island on Kickstarter, but I want to refund.
Unfortunately, a refund is no longer available anymore since it is way over the timeline.

#

How do I redeem my role on discord?
To claim your Discord roles, please do the steps as follow.

  1. Go to 👋server category -> call-kible-bot
  2. Write the following command: .backer_help
  3. Don't forget the point at the beginning and the underscore between backer and help!
  4. Our bot (Kible Bot#9933) will send you a private message with further instructions on how to claim your role.
If you haven't received a DM, please set your DM open first! (Privacy & Setting > Server Privacy Default > Allow direct messages from server member)
  5. Please note that you must enter the role code that has been sent to your email. DO NOT post your role code in the public channel, only on DM with Kible!
  6. After Kible Bot confirms that the registration has succeeded, you should be getting your role in a few minutes.
  7. If you have an issue with the process, please ask for help from our wonderful mods and/or Community Manager.

PS: Make sure you do the following when entering the code.

  • Do not use < > around the code
  • Use .role_code command at the front of your role code
  • Enter .role_code yourcode, not .role_code codehere yourrole
    E.g. .role_code 1ab2c3de4f56gh78
  • Make sure there is no space between "." and "role" in the .role_code command
You can see the attached screenshot for more details.

If you have more questions, you can reach out to our modmail or support email at Support@stairwaygames.com and our staff will be happy to help you!

=Other things=

What about platforms? When is the console release?
We're currently focused on developing the game for release on Steam/PC. Coral Island will be available on consoles, including Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, after PC's full release. We will announce the date when we have more to share.

Will there be multiplayer or coop?
Yes! Currently, the plan is to support both island visits and co-op multiplayer in a post-1.0 update. For more information, please check our roadmap here Early Access FAQ & Roadmap (stairwaygames.com)
**
What about controller support?**
Coral Island now works with the Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and other controllers.

What game engine does Coral Island use?
We are using Unreal Engine 4 to bring Coral Island to life.

**Is it okay to stream Coral Island? **
Yes! Feel free to stream Coral Island.

How about DMCA? Can I have Coral Island soundtrack in the background while streaming?
Non-commercial use of soundtracks like having Coral Island OST in background while streaming is okay.

I’m a streamer, do you have any assets I can use?
Please check our press kit here https://press.stairwaygames.com/

What languages does Coral Island support?
Good news! At the Early Access/Game Preview launch, Coral Island supports English, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, and Spanish. After launch, we’ll be actively working to improve the quality of localizations and have plans to support additional languages.

Can I be male/female/nonbinary? Can I romance same-gender people?
Yes! There are options for Mr./Ms./Mx. honorifics built into the game and you can also customize your own honorific. You can romance all of the love interests in the game, regardless of gender!

Will there be rival marriages in the game?
No, there are currently no plans to support rival marriages in the game.

#

**How many children can we have? **
You can have up to 2 children.

Do our children grow up?
Children will now grow up to be teenagers.

I’ve noticed you have Luwaks in the game. I’m concerned if this game will promote the current mistreatment of those animals?
The Luwaks in our game function similarly to pigs. They are able to sniff out the best coffee beans around Coral Island and, when taken care of well, will bring you a premium coffee bean.

Our depiction focuses on the earlier period of human and Luwak interaction before they were mass farmed. Farmers provide shelter and a safe environment for them to roam around in for a mutually beneficial relationship. We don’t condone the exploitative farming of Kopi Luwak. We’ve added them to the game because they are culturally relevant here in Indonesia.

Can I play Coral Island on Steam Deck?
Yes, Coral Island is playable on Steam Deck.

I don't see my question listed here.
Feel free to ask your question in the #1027414085656129616 channel, or send an email inquiry over to Support@stairwaygames.com

Coral Island 1.0 FAQ

1.0 Launch date

Coral Island will launch into Version 1.0 on November 14, 2023!

1.0 Launch Platforms

At 1.0, Coral Island will be available on Steam/Win10, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Coral Island is targeting a 2024 launch for Nintendo Switch. We need more time to ensure the playing experience is as best as possible.

1.0 Game Content

Coral Island v1.0 features a questline to revitalize the town, introducing more content and exciting new features unavailable in the Early Access versions. Here is the list of things you’ll be able to do in this version of the game:

  • Storyline to revitalize the town.
  • In-depth interactions with NPCs, including heart events and dynamic dialogue.
  • Marriage and the ability to start a family.
  • NPC outfits for Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter (most NPCs).
  • Bathing outfits (select NPCs).
  • Customization options for your house's exterior.
  • Over 200 décor options to choose from!
  • Over 200 clothing options to choose from!
  • Adopt a pet.
  • A total of eight unique festivals each filled with mini-games.
  • Access to all diving depths (10m/20m/30m/40m/50m).
  • Access to all mining gates (Earth/Water/Wind/Fire).
  • The chance to acquire a mythical pet.
  • Encounter Merfolk NPCs and explore their Kingdom.
  • And much more!

1.0 Price Adjustment

The suggested retail price of Coral Island will increase to $29.99 USD upon the release of v1.0 to reflect the breadth of content the game will offer.

Early Access Save Reset

Version 1.0 of Coral Island is a significantly different game from what it was at the start of Early Access a year ago, and we’ve made fundamental changes to the content, features, and so much more as a result of Early Access players’ feedback. Because of the scope of these changes, save games created during Early Access will not be compatible with v1.0 of Coral Island.

When you move on to v1.0, players will retain all of the gold you earned during Early Access, which will carry over into the new "New Game Plus” mode (see below). Any cosmetic charity DLC packs you purchased will be able to be reclaimed in Version 1.0, too. Once v1.0 arrives, save games will be compatible with all future updates going forward.

Please note, if a new game is started in v1.0 that overwrites the old save, players will be unable to import gold. Gold will only be imported when reloading the old save and resetting the save.

We appreciate all of the hard work and effort you’ve put into shaping Coral Island—both in building your own in-game islands, and helping us bring v1.0 of the game to life—and we hope you’ll enjoy embarking on a new journey, and experiencing Coral Island in a new way, with the official launch.

Early Access Testing Branch

For Steam players who’d like to check in on the farms they created during Early Access, a pre-v1.0 test branch of the game in its final Early Access state will be available on Steam from November 14, 2023 until February 1, 2024. To access it, follow these steps:

  • Right-click Coral Island in the left menu of your Steam Library, then select “Properties” from the contextual menu.
  • In the new window that appears, click the “Betas” menu, enter the password “EarlyAccessTesting” in the field under “Private Betas”, and click “Check code”.
  • If entered properly, you will now be able to select “Coral Island - Early Access Testing branch” from the drop-down menu above, next to “Beta Participation”. Doing so will install the Early Access Testing version and replace the main version of Coral Island.

There, you’ll be able to continue playing your Early Access farms until February 1, though please note that we won’t be updating this version of the game, and that you will have to select the main version of Coral Island from this same menu to play the v1.0 and up.

Warning: If a new save is created in v1.0 that overwrites the old save, that save can no longer be played on the Early Access Testing branch.
#

New Game Plus

By continuing with your Early Access save, you will initiate "New Game Plus." This means your character will start anew from the beginning of the game, with everything except your gold resetting.

1.0 Language Support

Coral Island will support the following languages in its 1.0 version:

English
Bahasa Indonesia
Simplified Chinese
German
Spanish
French

Coral Island 1.0 Hotfix FAQ

Can we expect a hotfix schedule for consoles?
Due to the nature of hotfixes, a dedicated schedule is unfortunately not possible. On consoles specifically, there is an extended process that must be followed due to porting, QA testing, and 1st party testing before a hotfix can be released.

While we cannot provide a schedule due to the above, we will do our best to provide transparency to future updates.

Is there any way to speed up the bug-fix process?
We have some long-term good news on this front! We are in the process of fully bringing the QA process in-house. While we will need a little bit of time to get up to speed, in the long term our hope is that this decision will allow us to speed up the process and get fixes out to you quicker.

I’ve just found a bug. How can I report it?
First, we’d recommend checking #🙈coral-known-bugs to verify the bug isn’t already reported and known. All known issues are listed there and crossed out once released.

If the bug isn’t on the list and you would like to report a new issue, please reach out via one of the recommendations below:

Along with notes around the bug itself, if you can please provide a video/save file/screenshot along with the version of the game you are running, this will hugely help our efforts and ability to streamline solutions.

Our customer support team reads every one of the reports that comes in. Please expect a small delay as we take the time to respond to each person who has reached out to us.

I’ve reported a bug, do I really need to upload a video/save file/screenshot?
If you are able to send us a video, save file, or screenshot of the issue you have encountered, it would be of tremendous help to our team! It helps us understand where the issue is happening which ultimately speeds up the process of QA reproducing the issue to fix it.

A bug was reportedly fixed but I’m still encountering the issue…
We know this can cause frustration or confusion. Bug fixing isn’t always an exact science and we hope to get everything resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible. Here are two reasons you may be finding yourself in this situation:

  • As noted earlier in the FAQ, the release of bug fixes is a lengthy, multi-step process. In order to ensure the best game experience for players, we prioritize releasing what has been fixed first. This means that a bundle of bugs may come in but only 75% are fixed. Rather than waiting for the full list of bugs to be completed, we push out the fixes that are done and queue the remaining 25% for the next release. Our hope is that partial fixes quickly are better than all fixes later. We will be more diligent about calling out partial fixes in future updates for added clarity.
  • On occasion a bug has been fixed, however, in specific circumstances the bug is still appearing for some players. When this happens there is more testing and required fixes to ensure the bug is clear for all players.
  • When reporting an issue if at all possible please try to provide what version of the game you are running. This is a hugely valuable piece of information when trying to dig into the cause of bugs especially after the game has seen several patches.

Once we are through the hustle of launch bug-fixing, we should have a cleaner patch release with more accurate fixes combined together. Please bear with us as we work to quickly address everyone’s feedback.

#

My game keeps crashing, can you help?
Due to the breadth of Coral Island, everything that works in the background to make the game run is quite complex. Unfortunately this means a vast combination of things can create an unexpected crash.

The good news is we are able to run crash reporting software on Steam and are able to track the crashes affecting the most players. Once a crash has been identified and fixed for Steam, it almost always carries over to the consoles as well.

Extreme edge cases, which are harder to reproduce, will take more time to fix. Thank you for your patience as we investigate how to best fix these for you!

Why do hotfixes bring new bugs to my game?
We are currently chasing the major bugs that have been reported. We test the core functionality of the fixed bugs so we can release them as timely as possible. Unfortunately, sometimes a bug fix results in a new bug because the change in code affected another part of the game we didn’t anticipate and therefore didn’t test against. If a new bug crops up, please report it and we will do our best to resolve that issue in a timely manner as well.

Once all the major launch issues are resolved, we’ll do a thorough sweep and work to prevent smaller bugs from cropping up with new releases.

1.2 Update Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is the Switch release?
A: We know you’re excited for the Switch version. We are too! We don’t have any updates right now, but we’ll share news as soon as we can.

Q: Will there be divorce in the game?
A: Nope, not at the moment. We don’t have anything to share on that feature right now.

Q: What if two players are courting the same NPC?
A: It’s a race to the altar! Whoever proposes first wins that NPC’s heart.

Q : I’m already married. Can I still see past hangout events?
A: In 1.2, you can’t replay hangouts with the NPC you’ve married. But don’t worry, we’re working on adding them to the Tablet of Memories, so you can relive those moments later on.

Q: Why is the 1.3 update being split into two parts?
A: We’re a bit behind on some parts, and we don’t want you to wait too long for an update. One of those parts is the portraits of the kids growing up. Believe it or not, for this update alone, there are over 700 unique portraits that need to be hand-drawn by a single artist (never AI. Thank you, David!).

Since Coral Island uses 2D portraits instead of 3D models, it’s important that all portraits are drawn by the same person to ensure harmony in style, coloring, and detail. Even small differences between artists would stand out, so every single portrait has to come from one hand. Fun fact: in the current build (before the kids grow up update), there are already over 2,000 portraits in the game, each expression is its own unique painting!

Q: Will it have split-screen or local co-op?
A: No, local/couch co-op won’t be available.

Q: Who can play with whom in Multiplayer?
A: Players on Steam, Windows, Xbox, and PlayStation are all be able to connect with each other.

#

**Q: Do I need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core to play multiplayer online? **
A: Yes. To play online co-op on PlayStation, you’ll need an active PlayStation Plus subscription. On Xbox, you’ll need Xbox Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate to play online.

Q: I play Coral Island on Xbox via PC. Can I play online multiplayer?
A: Yep! If you’re playing through the Xbox app on PC, that counts as the Xbox platform.

Q: Can I join my friend's save that’s already progressed far into the story?
A: Single-player and multiplayer saves are separate. So if your friend’s save is from single-player, you won’t be able to join that one. You’ll need to start a new multiplayer save together and progress as a team from there!

Q: Can I join the shared farm if the original host is offline?
A: Unfortunately, no. The shared farm can only be accessed when the host is online, as the save file is stored on their device. If the host isn’t online, the farm can’t be loaded.

Q: Can I use my existing save file for the new update?
A: Yes! Your current saves will work with everything in the 1.2 update—except Multiplayer. Multiplayer saves are separate from single-player saves. If you want to play Multiplayer, you’ll need to start a new save. Your single-player file will still work for the new romance content in solo mode.

Q: Why is the hotfix taking so long?
A: Yeah, totally get the frustration, it is taking a bit! Here’s what’s going on behind the scenes:

  • Today, we'll release the cross-platform support along with several bug fixes.
  • There’s another hotfix already in the queue, but it’s going through external QA, which usually takes about 1–2 weeks.
  • After QA, it goes to console certification (another ~1 week), and then it’s ready to launch.
  • The patch we released today was fast-tracked to prioritize cross-platform support. We kept the scope smaller so it could be tested faster, and it worked! That’s why it’s out earlier than the rest of the 1.2 bug fixes.

Coral Island 1.3 Update Overview FAQ

Q: When is the Switch release?
A: Stairway Games doesn’t have anything to share on this just yet, but we'll let you know the moment we do.

Q: I’m excited for the Kids Grow Up. When is it going to be released? Gimme dates!!!!
A: We hear you! We don't have an ETA for the 1.4 (Kids Grow Up) update yet. As soon as we have a date, you'll have it. We want to be sure before we commit. Right now, our focus is on 1.3. One day at a time.

Q: Will there be a breakup mechanic or divorce in the game? Or polyamory mode instead?
A: We did look into it! The short version: divorce and breakup systems get messy fast and can introduce a lot of bugs. Doing it properly would also mean a ton of extra content: NPC reactions, different outcomes, new cutscenes, etc. For instance, divorcing Pablo would have very different consequences for Rafael (Pablo's brother) than divorcing Macy would. There are just too many branches to make it feel right.

That said, the new save system ended up being our workaround. You can branch your saves and explore different relationships that way. It's not the same, I know. But it's the closest we could get without breaking the game or piling on tons of new content.

Q: Will it have split-screen or local co-op?
A: No. We tried. We just couldn't get local/couch co-op to work the way we wanted it to. Sorry, couch gamers.

**Q: Will we get more decor items like the ones from NPC houses? Or more outfits? **
A: Nope, no new decor or outfits in 1.3. Nothing in the works at the moment, but hey, never say never.

Q: What is a "mythical pet" and how many do I get?

For Kickstarter backers: your two exclusive mythical pets will be available from the start of the game. You’ll be able to cycle between both at any time as only one mythical pet can be active at a time. Your mythical pets are dragon and [redacted].

For everyone else: although the dragon and [redacted] are Kickstarter exclusive, you'll be able to acquire other types of mythical pets as end game content. Unlike the Kickstarter mythical pets, you won’t be able to cycle between other pets.

Q: Can I change the platform I choose after filling in the survey?
A: No, your choice of the platform you choose is final.

Q: Backerkit isn't taking any other payment than credit cards! I was told I could pay another way, what gives??
A: They should, we’re communicating with them to allow more payment methods. We’ll update you when we heard more from them.

Q: I purchased through the pre-order store, but I didn’t get my confirmation! Help!
A: Emails from the pre-order store will be sent between 10 minutes and up to ONE HOUR after purchase. If you haven’t received an email confirming your purchase after an hour, please contact Backerkit themselves to see what happened.

Q: How long is the pre-order store open for anyway?
A: While we don't have a specific end date for the store as a whole, you will only be able to purchase the Kickstarter-exclusive tiers and add-ons until March 31st, 2021. Starting April 1st, the store will change to game key or alpha pack only!

**Q: I was planning to order a copy of the game for my console, but I don't see the option for it. How can I get it? **
A: For the time being, we cannot add consoles as an option in our pre-order store. As we work with console platforms over time, we hope to be able to add the console/switch keys back as a pre-order option. We'll notify you all as soon as this becomes available. Rest assured, if you did manage to grab a pre-order for a console/switch key, you will definitely receive your copy. The same applies to all backers that backed us on Kickstarter. It's a promise!

Q: How do I redeem my __ (mythical pet, crown, clothing, etc.)?
A: You will receive redemption codes for those items. They will be account bound, so no matter how many saves you make of the game, you will be able to access those items and pets in each one.

Q: I haven't gotten my survey yet, what's the deal?
A: Surveys will be sent out over the next few days! Backerkit surveys were sent to the first 1000 backers on day one, and then 5000 backers will receive their surveys each day after that. With over 36,000 backers, that could take upwards of a week for all surveys to be sent. Please give it a few days before you start panicking!

A: To claim your Discord roles, please do the steps as follow.

  1. Go to 👋server category -> #🤖call-kible-bot
  6. After Kible Bot confirmed that the registration succeeded, you should be getting your role in a few minutes.
  7. If you have an issue with the process, please ask for help from our wonderful mods and/or Community Manager.

  • Do not use < > around the code
  • Use .role_code command at the front of your role code
