How to create the initial release with 1200+ commits ?

Hey. With a new project actively developped for the last few months, we are near the first release. But to do so we need to be able to create a release with all 1200+ commits then it will of course be smaller batches.

At the moment I am getting the following error : https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-cli/issues/814

Any ideas ?
