Fellow soldiers, I write this with a heavy heart that I’m leaving CODM.
I started playing in 2020. Five long years. Back then, I was just a college kid grinding BR with my homies, celebrating every win like it was the World Cup. When my BR-only squad moved on, I made the jump into MP ranked. Those early days had me hooked where every gunfight was tense and rewarding. CODM felt like CODM.
But today? Ranked is a hollow, frustrating mess. Maintaining rank is next to impossible now, and this season was the final straw.
CODM isn’t just a shooter anymore. It’s a machine built on stacked mechanics designed to make you chase that fleeting serotonin rush of a win only to crush you with losses that feel anything but fair. The emotional toll has outweighed the joy.
Here’s what finally killed the game for me:
>> Matchmaking
I solo-queued my way into top 5k this season. Despite college, I made time and grinded. Now? This week I played 50 matches and lost 35 of them. For every two wins, I get matched against four-stacks or absolute sweats, while my teammates can’t spell “objective.” Then comes the inevitable 6–7 game losing streak that eats up my entire evening. And yeah, I take breaks. But when your 3 - 4 precious hours after college are swallowed by losses, the game stops being fun. People tell me “just try other modes,” as if TDM or SnD aren’t camper fests. I’ve tried. They don’t fit my playstyle. The only silver lining has been befriending a handful of solo-queue grinders who know the pain.
>> Metas & cheap tricks
Nine months. That’s how long USS9 has dominated ranked. Add MG42, MOW + Thermite, and VMP to the mix, and you’ve got 80% of lobbies. If you’re not running these, you’re signing up for misery.
CODM’s pattern is laughably obvious now: release a new gun → release its mythic → overbuff the hell out of it → watch the money roll in. Rinse, repeat. And if you think it’s just about extra attachments on a gun, it’s not. These mechanics stack. They funnel the game into cheap spammy tactics instea...
