Disclaimer: this is not meant to bash or insult the game or the devs, I’m just here to piece together the system as best I can.
There are people who still seem confused on how matchmaking in ranked works, some people believe they’re getting unfairly matched or having sped teammates. I believe there’s a few reasons for this and some of this could just be speculation but essentially sbmm isn’t the only system implemented into the game, there’s possibly multiple systems at work here. For starters I think this game has lobby balancing.
For those who don’t know what lobby balancing is, basically the people you are matched with are not gonna be of similar skill, they may not even be in the same skill bracket as you, lobby balancing attempts to make the teams equal. For example, if there’s a really good player in queue the game will pair them with bad players to even that out while the other team could potentially have average players and maybe 1 decent player. This could be the reason why people get matched with players with “no thumbs” the game believes your a skilled enough player to play with the people your with. Now of course the system isn’t perfect, there are outliers, like the games where you stomp out the enemy team or the enemy team obliterates your team.
People will probably ask about matches where they’re getting matched with pro players or streamers even though they aren’t as skilled as them. I’m still not 100 percent sure what the game uses to determine one’s skill but I’m speculating that on top of sbmm the game uses some kind of hidden mmr system. Hidden mmr is a hidden skill rating which can be affected by but not limited to your kd, wins, losses, obj times, choice of weapons, and in some cases your movement. It’s usually independent of your visible rank(in other words it has nothing to do with your actual rank). If the game determines that you’re skilled enough it can and will place you against players of similar skill rating. If the game can’t find enough players it can and will pull player...
