On a solo mission - I'm able to grapple to the first section on the asteroid, but if I grapple to the next I fall through the terrain. I have tried this 3+ times and still get the same result

You can grab the loot if you jet boost into it from outside the asteroid and press F just as you reach it. You will clip thru the asteroid but have the loot in hand.
