Does certain things not give you materia? I know like the fire extinguisher stuff like that won't, but what about for example a 0 ammo gun? Once a gun gave materia but another time it didn't give anything but it mentioned it does give materia before excavating it.

I think it only gives materia if you recycle it during the same run you collected it. If you keep it and bring it on subsequent runs it doesn't

If you mean by runs you mean each mission, then that isn't the case. But if you mean jumps in a mission, then that would be understandable. In our situation however, we had used up the rifle up to 0 and it showed that we can get materia from it but then it doesn't give materia
