While it isn't directly related to technical limitations on legs [I agree it would be neat to see my legs but understand why it would be an infrastructural coding nightmare] it is also sort of funny that the melee attack with the multitool is a pistol whip, but anyone watching you do it sees you throw a punch, and if you watch your shadow, it's throwing a punch too.
I just sort of took it as a "ha ha this game has some whacky fun" thing, but I imagine that it might be related to why we don't get to see our legs.
