When playing i got the artifact that says something along the lines of ship gains 1000 shield and every subsequent jump that number is increased by 1000.
Sorry i don't have it currently to quote it exactly.
but i didn't have any noticeable increase to my shields nor did i see any bonus on subsequent jumps. this could be visual only and there was something going on i just didn't see or notice but it seemed like the artifact did nothing. as a side note i got it the first section of a 5 jump freight raid mission.

i also had this though i thought that it was a possible visual bug as i did seem to notice a difference in survivability, though it might be placebo

i had a similar issue. i was able to use all four charges of the shield item on the ship after applying that artifact despite seeing the extra shield from the artifact

My understanding was that it just refills upto 1000 shield each time you jump, with each 'pip' of shield being 250.
So it restores up to 4 pips, saving you up to 30 materia each jump.
