As we all know, the story of Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba), which Hinokami is based off of, takes place during Japan's Taisho period, which lasted from July 30, 1912, to December 25, 1926. During this time, several factors caused massive food shortages in Japan. For instance, the Rice Riots of 1918 (米騒動, Kome Sōdō) was one of the most significant food-related crises during the Taishō period, leading to critical food supply shortages.
This scarcity in food resulted in riots, lootings, and destruction of properties, which unfortunately led to the loss of many lives.
Therefore, since these circumstances are to be accurately reflected in Hinokami as added realism, violence over food supply is naturally going to be worse compared to DSRPG2.
However, players who are new to Hinokami and/or consuming food would be unprepared or overpowered by other players in a competition for food. Hence, the only realistic solution to ensure equitable supply of food to beginner-level players is to add a Walmart, with a membership exclusive to players under level 15.
This membership would protect new players from the horrors of the outside world as they safely satiate their hunger, giving them a much more optimistic chance at surviving Hinokami.
