Tl:dr, Higo and Vid had spoken to Snaliel in the past (way prior to the false accusations) amd both sides knew they copied Spiderman 2, our assets were made first as well, Snaliel decided to try and start drama to weaken competition anyways

Only reason I figured out so much about this one was so that I'd have the facts straight for whenever people repeated the false claims

Some devs have noticed solo/contract devs copying their work and have thus requested Higoshi not to show the stuff they made, as well as Higoshi believing that sneaks shouldn't be until closer to the final product, many things that would be good content for sneaks are not completely finished as they are the projects of multiple devs and some components haven't been completed, etc

There's two things he called us out for:

  1. Our string BDA having similar moves, in which I've already stated it's from Spiderman 2 without this video, but I made this after the incident unfolded. (video attached)
  2. Two months after the first accusation, Higoshi did a sneak peek of him fighting a bandit in Okawa. Snaliel noticed a similarity in the sneak and thought Higoshi was doing this purposely to tease him, but we've had that area and the bandit there before Snaliel sneaked his, because it's the starting area.

During the incident, Snaliel DM'd Higoshi: "I heard you were my biggest fan", which Higoshi quickly took offense to. Snaliel insists that this is a joke, but Higoshi does not know him personally and has no reason, to be aware of Snaliel's humor or play off a plagerism accusation lightly. From Higoshi's standpoint, Snaliel appeared to be trying to make a hit on him at the time, given his public announcement, which detailed Yaiba's stop in sneaks due to suspicions of a game copying them. Higoshi reacted poorly to this, because of the announcement and the DM. In my opinion, knowing Higoshi, he would of probably never ever noticed the announcement if it wasn't for that direct message.

It would have been preferable for them to have a real conversation about it before any announcements or discourse went about, but Snaliel stated he had already been convinced we had copied/took inspiration from him, so no discussions were made prior to his first announcement and initial actions. The entire drama stemmed from the assumptions of Snaliel, giving no chance for Hinokami defend ourselves, and Higoshi wildly overreacting in the heat of the moment.

Even with the proof that we didn't copy, he wouldn't listen anyways. Snaliel shifted his argument from "they copied us, they're our biggest fans" to "they took inspiration from us and we're okay with it" to "Higoshi started drama in public, and deleted the message to make me look bad." In response to the last argument, I think Higoshi deleted his mocking announcement because he later realized it was immature, but the damage was already done :T

The entire thing wouldn't have happened in the first place if we all got to talk like gentlemen, and BEFORE any sort of announcement. This had happened two months where Kono, myself and Snaliel even stated that "we got the inspiration from Spiderman I think, idk the animator made it"

I am however, worried that he'll think we stopped sneaks because he did too. That's not the case at all though. Higoshi had alot of life issues so development slowed down for a period, and I went to go focus more on RELL Seas. I doubt this will be the end of the drama, but I hope we can squash it eventually.

He's got his side too, and I can see where he's drawing similarities. And note this retelling is probably one sided because it's from my perspective and I encourage you not to take sides.
But this was bound to happen if we had the same inspirations. It happens too often in Roblox dev, and most of the time it happens in private.
I think I could of done alot more to stop it, so personally I think some blame goes on me for not doing enough to prevent it.

We've got called out by other two games before, but it's too vague to even be considered a copy. One was an OSU minigame and another was a ground pound attack.

We could of posted proof in public, or tried to show him any more proof in conversations, but beyond that point it wasn't worth the effort or causing any more outrage. People were already raiding the discord, and we didn't want to impact the communities any further.

I think Snaliel isn't too serious about people taking inspiration from his work, but he's serious when his work is copied 1 to 1

in this case ours was similar so he assumed so, even though we had the same references. And I've never internallyheard of us specifically referencing Yaiba, especially since I'm usually the one organizing developers.

But in our viewpoint, it's a pretty serious accusation. So there's the difference in perspective

That's all the insight I think I can give. It was supposed to be a brief tldr, but it ended up longer than I thought because I didn't want to do Snaliel dirty.
I've never been in Yaiba's discord or anything, so I can't give information on what I don't know. And any incorrect facts you can probably correct me on, but please don't come at me like im a mcdonalds worker who got your order wrong (please).
