After you complete final selection you should get to choose 1-10 ores that will decide the type of steel for the sword you get. However there should be ONE ore that if chosen you can unlock the Red Nichirin sword faster or its easier to obtain for them. If chosen that ore you could also gain a small damage buff to that weapon.
