here’s the thing, dsrpg focuses more on pvp rather than pve and tangible progress

and since many skills required for optimal pvp are locked behind progress in dsrpg2, it wouldn’t make much sense to take away the ability to experience pvp properly everytime you lose a duel

The thing about "permadeath" games is some people thing you can add it willynilly to make it more interesting.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. I understand permadeath got popular with CC games and Rogue Lineage, but they're actually taking mechanics from the Rogue/Roguelike genre where you're given randomized or short bursts of progression and then given death to advance or reset it.
In a "RPG" game like RPG 3, it won't work out as well because of the longer and more PVE styled progression.

If anything, permadeath will be annoying. People don't like having hours of progress wiped in one moment, especially if progression was long and not styled to be modular in any way.

Permadeath in Roguelike games are interesting because it gives you new chances to try new combinations of abilities and skills. Deepwoken takes good advantage of this with the cards system and the life system.

If you get wiped, you get different cards, different build, different stats and a different playstyle.

for RPG 3, you will likely not have as much variation in playstyle if you're going for a preset moveset like Breathings and Demon Arts if you wipe. It's better for people to keep their progress and experiement with new things at their own discresion when they want to freshen up their PvP experience.
