In the early 32nd century, House Davion had a problem within their medium lances. although the centurion D9 was highly effective, the design was starting to lag behind in effectiveness thank to the Draconis Combine's recent obsession with hardened armor in the dark age era. additionally, mechwarriors started to complain about the durability of the design due to the now aging performance of the standard star league era classic Cellular Ammunition storage system. as a solution now seeing more and more use, the D10 conversion of the centurion was made.

the centurion would attempt to soften the logistical demands of construction by using parts from other machines in production, with the supplementing of the foreign plasma rifle with a more domestically preferred re engineered large laser, that being the chiscomp 87 model commonly seen now in federated suns use. the multi missile launcher 7 came from the also in service hellspawns with their "10G" refit.
Now while the centurion D10 came from complaints about the effectiveness of the d9 in modern situations; the 7D trebuchet came from the lackluster performance of another machine with which we have mentioned before; the hellspawn.
while the hellspawn was a design that was proficient in it's performance, mechwarriors of the federated suns began to want to bring back some of the weight of fire that some of the later variants of the dervish had, back to the field, such as that found in the "9D" model first produced in 3068.
finally, there was also a wish for a design that could also be used as a SRM boat, similar to the the Ancient KTO-18 that saw service late in the 3rd succession war. both wishes were attempted to be fixed with this variant.
