General question about installation

Hello,

I've been using Mobiflight for quite a while now. It's a fantastic program. However, so far I've "only" used it to map my buttons on my Thrustmaster.

I now want to take the next step and use Arduino. Since I have no experience with microprocessors, I first got a Nano, got it running on a breadboard, and did some experiments. I've also already read some pages of the Mobi documentation.

I have a question: The documentation says I should install the Mobiflight firmware. How am I supposed to understand that? Is "firmware" really firmware in the traditional sense, or is it more like a sketch in the Arduino sense? And if it is firmware, can I back up the original firmware beforehand, or is that unnecessary because I can continue my experiments?

You can think of it as an Arduino sketch. It will replace whatever is already on your Arduino

You can always install an Arduino sketch onto it later if you no longer want to use it with Mobiflight, or use the reset firmware command in Mobiflight to erase mobiflight from it

Just a short remark. The Arduino firmware installation is the easiest and most straighforward step. Just one click in the Modules menu. Then the hardware and software configuration is also simple but takes a bit more time. But a lot of fun 😉
