I've been flying the A2A Aerostar 600 a lot lately. Really nice GA for those longer trips. It's autopilot's controls weren't a great match for the devices I already had, and the pitch wheel (separate from trim!) needed it's own indicator, so I built a super-simple display device using this $3 display from AliExpress https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806852012295.html and these lighted pushbuttons: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807538609313.html I think I could do a better job with the lighted labels (it's just laser-printed paper!) but it's working for me. Only the screen is custom MF. The buttons, pitch wheel, rockers, LEDs are just normal devices.

Maybe you can print in laser printable transparency film, and see if that helps, and if it still bleeds light badly, print twice, or then print black text in clear plastic.

Are the buttons on PWM pins? Am I seeing it right that there is dim backlight and brighter "ON" indication state for the buttons?
