#Cannot update firmware

I have just built a button box, and trying to connect to the MEGA2560 through MF but it keeps saying it can't update firmware.
Does the board need separate power or is just the USB connection enough?

The usb power should be enough to power your board. Is it an original or a Chinese clone (picture, please)? Did you have other software like the Arduino IDE running ?

#

Be sure to close the Arduino IDE or Cura before starting Mobiflight.

I worked out that if I unplug everything from the board, I can then flash without issue

#

But what are you supposed to do? Unplug and reconnect everything all the time? As it is now, I have to disconnect the shield from the board, flash, test and repeat. Is there a work around? or a reason why it needs to be unplugged from the connections?

Are you sure your connections work? That sounds like something is shorting out the board

I will check all my solder connections on the pins of the shield. Thanks

#

When I upload the config and plug the shield in, things work as they should though, so not sure

Are you using pins 0 or 1 in the Mega?

#

Those should not be used

D2 onwards

I would suspect the same as Neil. Something is wrong with your connections. Can you disconnect just part of the devices? That may help pin point the bad connection or short.

I just realised I had a switch on D0 and D1. Could that have been my issue?

Yes
