Overall though I feel quite conflicted about whether I prefer these even MORE dynamic backgrounds over the previous "static" ones.
There are some backgrounds that I think benefit a lot from it, but others seem just worse to me.

@here there's a new build up on CSP with some final fixes! Hopefully we'll be putting it up on the live branch soon, but if you've got more feedback on the new background stuff we'd love to hear it 🙂

Overall, they're great in concept but they also soft break existing backgrounds
as in I might've picked a specific coloring because it matches the album art well when it's static but the reactive backing color diverges from the intended look
I think in a future update being able to make a section stick to a specific coloring state would be the closest thing to full on background scripting
I think they're really cool, just that it makes certain songs feel dim in a sense, like I See Lite or Adventures
I also think that spins should give off a less intense background flash than beats but that's more subjective
it just looks a bit funny where the glow goes really bright in a calm section of a song that has no beats because of spins
regardless, it's a simple yet such lively effect being added to an already pretty background system, I like it :)
yeah its a tough one, the main reason for the spins is that they are in every difficulty, and if it was more intense on beats the background would be full intensity all the time, especially for anything above 40.

I think the glow covering more of the lanes can work but it being offset like that almost looks like a graphical bug
makes matches like that hard to read, as well as rifles under beatholds
is there a reason the Believe moon is green now with the One Esk colors? I was kinda counting on Believe + One Esk to fill the role of any blue/black background I needed and now the moon is very much not blue 😦

New beatholds seem really excessive. Its really messes with patterns that use outer lanes and I honestly find it super distracting how it almost covers up things in lane 1/5
Feel like the game has been visually perfect for such a long time all these drastic changes to main note types are uneeded
the funny square thingy for taps after spins goes pretty far in the chart preview 
I'm starting to warm up to these spin flashes. I think If I were able to remove the sparking particle effects I would actually keep these turned on. I'm use to the particle effects by now but I do think it would be nice to be able to turn them off

All the feedback effects look so damn good but its def a bit too much for me to have them all on at the same time. Being able to kinda balance them out a bit would definitely be awesome even though its fine as it is

even if the buildings didn't change, which is upsetting, the background is far worse imo
So many backgrounds just look like a big downgrade now. A lot of really cool dynamic looking floors look really 1 dimensional and flat. Background elements seem to get covered up entirely by the ground quite a lot. In general so many colors look off when they were perfectly fine before.

I recorded this a bit ago but VR is super cool. here's a full fairly difficult custom

I was ramping my ts up pretty quickly tho I got to like 55
it's a little tough to balance where the track is visually and where my arms feel comfortable but I thought the wheel higher up felt better most of the time
helped me keep my hands up
suuuuuper pumped about VR mode! the tutorial level played great. then I pressed "exit" after completing the tutorial, hoping it would bring me to the song list, and got this, and the game crashed. lmk if you'd like log files etc. sorry for the boomer screenshot it wasn't letting me take a normal screenshot
might as well just include it I suppose!
seems to be unable to load the songlist at all for me, I'm guessing because I have a ridiculous amount of custom songs, loading the songlist in the regular game usually takes a while anyways. I'll try removing customs and see if that fixes it

On a full amd rig game runs smooth but the search button doesnt bring a keyboard up for use to search for a song. Back button no matter what headset i used takes about 4 trigger pulls to be accepted. and 7/10 time when i load in to a song the game doesn't enable the non dominant controller until i spam a button Headsets used and test on Q3 with pro controllers , Pimax (steamVR) with index knuckles plus 8 tracking sensors , Pico 4. SteamVR beta v 2.6.2
and also if you pass a song and score worse than a D no like medal type icon appears and that is with no fail off

I think there's like several remixd diffs missing, that were previously already in the game
Vr doesn't work at all for me past the Spin Rhythm XD logo anim, everything goes dark, but the menu music does still play
blindly interacting with anything does crash steamvr however
are you opening it from the desktop with steam vr unintialized or in the headset
because if you launch from inside the headset it open the game in SteamVR Theatre mode which has some issues when other programs try to take it time in the front
completely exit out of steam vr so it all closed launch game then enable VRmode in game
i fell in to this myself at first
it would be more of an ideal if steam asked on launch what mode we would like

funnily enough i have the complete opposite experience
launching while in steamvr boots the game into vr mode perfectly, while the "enable vr" button does nothing for me
On the other hand the "exit vr" button works perfectly fine for me :)

@hybrid panther if you would be able to send through a Player.log file if you ever see that crash again that would be a great help! Haven’t noticed that crash myself unfortunately
no idea what changed for keyboard/mouse but its really weird
calibration setting numbers arent changed but not works like before
- wheel moves really weird and slow, no problem with sensitivity setting
Hi Eraser. It sounds like you're experiencing the input delay problem that's been reported. Are you seeing this on the absolute latest build?
Try closing the game and do Verify Integrity so it'll check for the update

i tried to solve this with calibration settings so that's normal
idk if vr is broken on my pc or if its the game but it has locked up my pc 3 time in less then an hour
I've been sent under the map a couple of times when trying to use the recenter tool using steam vr setting

Ah thanks! Is this a log immediately post crash? Looks like there was no error reported here. I can see you’re running with a mod though, so it may be related to that
This is not post crash, but theoretically my mods were disabled while I was on the new build. If I can recreate the issue I'll make sure to get the log!
Yeah maybe I didn't go through the right process to properly disable them before switching versions
if you verify game files through Steam it should notice the swapped around UnityPlayer.dlls and fix them so the game will run without mods
or just delete them and let Steam redownload

Really good imo. At least on the Chillhop tracks I tried it on. Can't say how sharper turns and dips will feel but it didn't make me motion sick and looked awesome

I have a pretty high tolerance to it to be fair. Wearing a VR headset just wear out my eyes and head after too long. I got used to VR motion after like a week of having a headset
Thumper VR is kinda a similar experience now that I think about it
Tried the new build, twisty feels great in vr, very trippy and did not experience any sort of motion sickness while playing seated.
I gave the VR mode a go last night (full VOD available on Twitch). Fun stuff! I think twisty track -or rather making track motion more user friendly in the editor- is going to be the play for VR. Thanks for enabling it.
I tried the (almost) default, CTM-like controls using Vive pro wands; using the knuckles is frustrating. Then I tried a more "free-wheel" setup.
CTM is a mental workout but pretty fun/engaging.
Free-wheel feels an order of magnitude easier to score with. Also way less interesting in VR. But I'm still 100% thankful that it's available as a control option.
Question: Is there a way to set up the controls so that while using button/trigger presses for beats, any up/down motion is 100% ignored? I tried to find the combination of settings that would accomplish this, and I was not successful. As I was playing along in "free-wheel" mode, my left hand sometimes drifted upward (as I was bopping around 😉 ). At some point my hand got "above the line" and moving down counted as a beat. Basically I'd like to avoid the over-beating without restricting my arm position to be locked at my side or raised in the air.
Over-all it's a pretty sweet addition to the game. The new tracks are great too. Nice work.
P.S. Will we eventually get custom thingamabobs (see image)? Or will they stay as beams with a T at the end?
I forget the option, but when selecting what each hand does there's an option for physical input only, so that hand stops doing anything with up/down and is solely for button presses. Is that what you meant?
Ah yeah that might be it. I think I had it set to beat only, but then mapped a button.

at some point will the VR version support the steam popup that asks whether you want to launch in VR mode or desktop mode? I still have to do the workaround where I rename the steamvr folder to launch normally

I don't know, this is a steam feature
PS4 won’t have VR and PS5 will likely have you enable VR mode in the main menu
I’d imagine it will launch similar to any other PSVR 2 optional mode, I.E how Resi 4 handles it.
the menu music fade out is a bit weird, because it overlaps with other songs when going into song selection and with level start sounds when retrying from the result screen
I think the cutoff being instant was nicer
also, hold note taps don't need to be hit with the right wedge now

I encountered another bug. Apparently this seems to be a controller only bug like the first bug I posted.
I have an unusual problem with launching the VR version, it appears the game loads before SteamVR has even begun to start, it locks up the HMD (Index) which can no longer be found until SR is shut down, SteamVR is rebooted and then SR is launched afterwards.
is the menu music meant to start before the opening titlecard thing?

Water Elemental RemiXD has scores resetted but it's all back to normal when I go back to the regular version.

I figured I didn’t see anything different with the chart
I've noticed that the grip sensors on the Index controllers are way too sensitive in the beta. I have to basically flare my hands wide open in order to avoid the game thinking that I want to relocate the track. Is there a way to tune this down? I assume it's a game issue and not a Steam VR issue as SRXDVR is the only game that responds this way. Other folks that I know have had similar experiences.
By contrast, the Vive Pro wands have been brilliant so far. Too bad their battery life is sort of terrible.

Yeah, both branches have been the same for a while. Only reason I didn’t push it to ea was that I made a fairly significant refactor to input mapping with this one and I haven’t been able to test it completely thoroughly

Please add variants of the chillhop DLC backgrounds that remove the racoon character, he's super cool and stuff, but he doesn't fit the vibe when used for customs (and add variants without the monstercat head for that dlc as well if you could much thanks).

Small bug. When I set custom mappings, then restart the game, the mappings get duplicated.
Also for some reason I cannot map a new pause button while using the Index controllers.
The grip sensitivity feels much better.

Under the hood the things don’t have sensible names, so I just went with letters
so it seems like:
A gets rid of the audio visualizers on the side
B gets rid of the crystals or any sky elements (also the pyramids from the haywyre songs and buildings from the anomalie songs, and the flashing lights on revenger)
C gets rid of the ground
D gets rid of the rings that the ship flies through
E.... idk what E does honestly (oh it got rid of the giant spinning thing on the one esk bg, oh and Monstercat heads from the dlc bgs... and the large skulls from ghost ship and raise the black flag, and the giant flying cubes on robo trio or twist sound)
F gets rid of sky elements that fly towards you and reacts to bpm (?), like the cubes on show me love or pyramids on dance with silence
G gets rid of the godrays you see on bgs like pirate afterparty, the kraken, etc
E will be legendary

The letters don’t necessarily always match up per bg. It’s just the order in which it finds a “disableable” thing

There’s a slight tweak to the VR aim assist in the latest CSP build. Match strings should feel smoother
it's probably too much work but would it be in the realm of possibility to make it so that we can bring elements in/out at different times of the chart? or even switch backgrounds?

Just a few thoughts from me (my personal opinion) it's totally ok if you don't agree.
• The way to now select a difficulty is a bit strange, moving left/right seemed a lot more intuitive
• Where the filter is, doesn't seem very practical. It made more sense when it used to be next to search
• Still waiting for the recently added sort filter
• Give me Dutch as a language pls

like tetris effect for example. the playfield is zoomed out by default since this is a game you'd play on a big screen tv. for smaller screens you obviously want it more zoomed in which this game does allow you to do

clipping is mega broken on the beta build right now
I can't even find a pattern to it
but it seems that fadeouts are using fadein numbers (sometimes? maybe?)
and some out of bounds fades are randomly inbounds now? maybe?
but even the clipping in basegame is affected
you can notice it on songs with clipped endings, especially on the lower diffs
eg. Blue Shadows XD, Checkpoint H & Ex, etc
