mind you vroid on its own is free, but you can BUY stuff to use in vroid too
most of my model uses prefab assets and a few custom textures or textures that were altered from prefabs but other than that I made it entirely myself, for free
i don't have to worry about any legal risk because even though it's using prefabricated assets, i still combined the assets into an original design, and it's not like i took an entire existing design and recolored it
HOWEVER
vtubers that use pre-existing characters/designs exist
examples: Sonic the hedgehog, ruby rose
both characters have vtuber models, and ruby rose (AS IN FROM RWBY) is voiced and done by her actual voice actress and was done with permission from roosterteeth who owned the RWBY ip
there's something to be said for people who start with bootlegs of other peoples work and eventually ship-of-thesus it into something entirely original. this DOES happen and that is what i HOPE filian does
