If you stay near the double door the flies cannot detect you.
They move a bit away from the hive and stay still in one place (this gives a chance to easily kill them with ranged attacks).

I DIDN'T want to share this because I finally managed to beat this boss, only because of this exploit 😅
This floor is the hardest of ALL in my opinion. Unreasonably hard for a second floor!
So are the monsters - some are pretty cool, but others - just tedious.

Also the boss has the SAME visual as the hive enemies in he sewers, but needs a completely DIFFERENT approach to defeat.
This is a gameplay false call and leads to player frustration the first time the boss is encountered.
I personally tried hitting the hive each time the minions are gone. It took me a while to realize that the "queen" is the actual boss.
Also if the hive is hanging from the ceiling it would look more intimidating AND if would clear the central area for navigation,
because not only is this boss hard, but also the layout has pools of damaging water 😬

You make many good points I think. It is hard, and the nest is a false signal.

It has the pools, it has the acid pools from the queen, which last very long and by the way target you, so you need to watch how you move. Which is a common thing in big fights in other games, but hadn't been introduced before in this game.

Also don't forget, the enemies you fight have you looking up often, making it even harder to avoid the pits!

I suppose that would be even worse if it's on the ceiling

My idea was to free up space for movement in the middle, because now when you start the floor is taken up roughly by ~40% acid pits, 20% hive base and like you pointed out - when the queen appears she scatters acid almost everywhere else...
