twitch studio makes framerate drop to 5-15 on mac mini M1 and intel macbook pro, but difference is barely noticeable in windows 10 under bootcamp on the same laptop. any ideas?

Keep your activity monitor opened and see if you are stressing the cpu/gpu. Are you streaming a game? What kind of capture are you using? What stream quality preset are you using?

cpu/gpu load isn't very high, just been setting up the twitch studio testing it out, not even streaming out. stream quality I tried was 720 and 1080. was trying to capture fullscreen and wow itself, exact same result. ordered myself one of those usb capture cards now, maybe that's all it takes. my laptop is a 16" 2019, has 2 GPU's, when just gaming it's only the AMD one that's active, when twitch studio is open for some reason the intel kicks in too. cpu load is still low. just lags like mad. on the M1 I see the same. when twitch studio is open, performace takes a skydive.

the odd thing is that in windows on the laptop there was no hiccups. but only the AMD GPU was active there, windows didn't even detect the intel one

what's the performance problem? goto your stream quality, set your preset to 720p60 or 1080p30. I think M1 should be able to handle them. Unless you are running a game, then you will have to adjust that and/or the game graphics.

was trying to run WoW at the same time with twitch studio set to capture the wow window or 2nd screen I was playing on. never had issues with that in obs, but twitch studio made it grind to a halt. going to check what it will be when the capture card arrives at some point during the week, suspect that will take a lot of load off the computer letting me game on the m1 and have twitch studio on the laptop

in activity monitor are you seeing high usage? have a look at it. you can change the icon to look like this

#

please post some stats here. #roles get your mac roles so you can post screenies

WOW is a gpu hog, and those radeon cards inside aren’t super high performance. If your cpu usage sits low, try changing your encoder to x264 (on your intel mac). Pushes encoding to your cpu instead of gpu.

#

Also try dropping your stream quality to 30fps instead of 60. See if that helps.

x264 helped a bit, but still lags too much to be playeable. laptop has a radeon m5600, so should have plenty of pop in it. gpu and cpu load isn't very high either. about the same wether twitch studio is open or not. I primarily game on the m1, there shouldn't be any issues there, but for some reason the framerate drops to silly levels when capturing main screen or wow windowed. 5-10 fps when standing still at the flightmaster in valdrakken. wow graphis set to 8. (funny is that the lower I set the graphics, the worse it gets..)
