If anyone has any screenshots or an outline of the scam drop it here. So we know exactly what to look out for

they message anyone they have previously had a direct message conversation history with.
The message starts off the same;

hi there! sorry for the inconvenience, how's it going? I would like to ask for a short time from you because I badly need your help.

They will respond with the following
text and send a form (see picture) they claim is from Discord.

I mistakenly reported your Discord account for illegal purchases and fraudulent activities when it was actually someone else responsible. After submiting a ticket, Discord has notified me that if no action is taken from your end, your account and IP address might be blocked.

Discord would never contact you through a third-party if you already have an account; Discord already has your account and contact credentials.
Do not click any links they send you

In my case, they skipped the "sorry for the inconvenience" bit and were very in-character in line with the previous conversation.

Same here
Though for me, a third party then introduced themself as a member of the Discord team and wanted to verify my account. It is of note that they seem to have impersonated a real person who actually works for Discord. The account was alandes_support.
They immediately posted a picture of what looked like a resume, calling it their "certificate" (of course it was fake, but well-crafted)
Then they proceeded to ask for an e-mail and "screenshots of financial transactions"
They also claimed there is a black market for Discord accounts, which I do not doubt there is (they have a specific rule against it) but I doubt the user verification process would involve everything they are asking for

Suspicious signs:

  • they are very insistent, I barely had time to answer
  • they speak in code style but will occasionally break that style, especially if things are going off-script and you keep doubting their story
  • Unfortunately excellent spelling and grammar, I suspect AI assistance

Someone tried to get me with that a couple weeks ago. It seemed fishy so I just blocked them.

Honestly, if you don't know them/of them, don't answer. The only times I have dmed with people are when I know them irl or I've interacted with them a fair amount on servers

I just dont get how ANYONE gets hacked. Except maybe really old people who dont use tech often. Like, genuinely, EVERY SINGLE TIME someone online is asking you for personal info, it IS a scam. Not a single official employee of any company is ever going to request personal info from you. Ever. You literally give every single company you interact with with every bit of info they could possibly need when you make an account/profile/purchase/etc

#

the moment someone asks you for info like this, they ARE a scammer and you should both block and report them to the platform they talked to you on

Fun fact, "alandes_support" is now "stylish_raccoon_12238"

can see their actual account name by viewing someone's profile

people wouldn't bother phishing if it didn't still work
