#Bad RSSI dBm value & connection losses

Hey everyone,
I am experiencing massive connection issues with a new Drone I have bought pre build. I am only able to fly in a range of a few meters before I loose the connection and the drone will failsafe.
The Bench Test also shows really bad values. I get values between -65 up to -75 dBm having the radio and the drone side by side.

What I have tried so far:

  • using the spare 90mm antenna i have on the receiver
  • updating everything
  • trying different baudrates
  • turning ADC filter off
  • trying different packet rates

My setup:

  • TX: Radiomaster TX12 mk2 (Firmware 2.8.1, ELRS Config Version 3.2.0 8d3388)
  • RX: 2.4G ELRS EP1 Nano Receiver (ELRS Config Version 3.2.0 8d3388)
  • Video: Avatar HD System
  • FC: t-motor mini f7

Any idea how I can proceed finding a solution is appreciated 🙏

Can you post a photo of how you're orienting the receiver and tx antennas please

#

-75dBm seems still high for a warning

#

Also, can you post a photo of the Bench Test set up please.. (a photo of how the kwad and tx module is laid out during the Bench Test)

bend your antenna following the guide above

and elevate your kwad/receiver off the flat surface..
that mug in the Bench Test guide isn't there for show

This brings me up to -40 in the bench test.
Is this a value with which I can carefully try the next field test?

that receiver antenna is still close to something..
and maybe that vtx antennas are kinda interfering with your signal..
but -40dBm is already good ish..

yeah, both antennas are pretty close to each other in this build - but as this is a pre build set I would assume that they have tested this build.
I will go out for another test now and will come back with the results. Being on -40 in the bench test is at least way better than before. I also set the rssi dbm alarm in the goggles to -95 as it was still on standard value (which is something about -50, right?).

Result of my test was:
It's much better than before but still feels bad. I had an immediate failsafe after the first time I have gone behind an obstacle with no chance to safe the drone through punching out. There is still something wrong in my system 😖

you're only using 10mW

#

set your power level to say 100mW or 250mW even, then keep Dynamic Power enabled

Before the flight I changed the power level to 100mW (EU max). Packet rate was 150Hz
