#Balanced out the number of Female and Male playable characters

I just noticed lately on CN server, PGR is now turning into a waifu game. Releasing a bunch of female constructs and some few dudes. Like why? The target market of this game are both male and female. If you keep releasing waifu, then the target market of this game are males all along? If that's the case then what was the point of releasing male constructs then?

I just don't want this game to treat the Female Commandants who play this game as extras.

Please referred to the statement "what was the point of releasing male constructs then?" Since the plot is always about the girls then there's no need to released the males

Honkai did cover a bunch of male characters to their plot but there weren't any male playable characters.

And you say depend on the story? A Chrome got released and the story was not focused on him but on Lucia. Camu got released but the story was not focused on him but the theme of the summer break itself. Roland got released but the plot is a starting point for Liv character build up, it's not entirely focused to Roland.

which clearly means that the focus of a chapter doesn't have to be the newly released character

Not like I'm declining the main idea, but you are talking about CN games here in general.
Which is something you shouldn't expect much.
The following fact may be irritating, but you should already know that females revenues gain plentiful compared to the males.
It has become traditionally the practice from CN games. Except those that are labeled with "Otome"or the realistic "Shooter" genre.
If anything, they are gaining revenues from the females so they can create a better quality of males, although in a considerable planning and gaps to regain the payoff.
This isn't something new in CN games especially anime type.
CN peeps have calculated that the possibility of male units released in entirety is about 1-3 male per year in PGR, that is.

# night swift Didn't I just said about "what's the point of releasing male characters?" And ...

Well, it was already in their planning since the beginning if you ask why.

and I haven't played or research about the majority of games you mention except for Genshin and Aether Gazer.
You should already know that these two games have different pattern of released units, right?
PGR has abandoned the same pattern as they are into the 1 unit per month in capita.
Genshin and Aether Gazer has about 2-3 units per month.

the current story chapter featured roland and a past chapter featured chrome and fallen star wasn't focusing on watanabe but they still released him next to ayla so what i said wasn't wrong or contradictive

and mostly the males are just random faceless NPC or humans

And that was the main idea of my suggestion "Balance out the Male and Female playable characters" PGR can released an S rank Female character and A rank male character at the same time and it could be the other way around.

PGR is neglecting it's Female Players

After Roland, we will get Liv, Pulao, Selena, Nanami, Haicma and Karenina then we got Noan. After Lee we will get Ayla, Alpha, Hanying and No. 21 then Noctis.

So what now?

It never hurts to giving suggestions.

After all like what the user Strafey says, currently releases unit depends on the story flow which is could at some point affect the pattern of released units and the f2p balance aspect.
You wouldn't like there to be a case where there is a constant S unit that was not free, which if we speculate per month consists of A and S unit per patch, and the Uniquant playability isn't any near to fill the blank spot, right?
It can be initially or accidentally become 2 S rank in 1 patch, so ranging out more to the future could be even more.

I am just expressing certain facts, is all.
My apologies if it causing any inconvenience on your side.

since pgr only releases one character per patch they gotta make more fems to regain the loss from releasing a husbando

the target market of almost all games are males, for the obvious reason that more males play games than females in general, and the difference is quite high, especially in these kind of games

it is what it is, and unless suddenly a massive amount of females start to play and spend in games, it will stay what it is, I guess

interesting suggestion.

i don't buy the argument of "character's release depends on the story" as the main deciding factor. yes, that aspect plays a part, but it's not the final nail. the answer is actually pretty simple :

"money talks"

if male characters give Kuro huge and better profit than female, i'm fairly certain they'd somehow make the story to fit the release of male characters.

and to address OP's suggestion, the answer is the same. money talks. so if anyone out there wants more male playable characters, speak with your money. pull them a lot, SSS+ them, buy packs, or any other available methods to profit Kuro during male character's patch.

not to mention, these kinds of games are generally targeted for those that want waifus from the beginning. honestly it's very obvious. the ratio of female to male launch characters were already leaning towards the female chars.

night swift
# quaint leaf well tbf waifus sell better than husbandos

Let me get this straight, I know waifu sells better than husbandos. Don't give me that kind of reason. If waifu really sells well then WHAT IS THE POINT OF RELEASING THE MALES?

If the target audience are males all along then there's no need to release a male playable characters right?

They should have release females only like Honkai right? I mean it's business and money talk right!?

The whole point of my suggestion is to not let female players feels like they're an extra. It's like PGR is spoiling the male audience too much but what about the females audience though?

Please if there's any of you want to counter my argument. Give me a more reasonable reason than "WAIFU SELLS BETTER THAN HUSBANDOS" you'll sounds like you're protecting KG from their bias treatment to the whole player base.

quaint leaf
#

do you not realize how much ppl in twitter are thirsting over the males

#

if you think kuro ignores the female playerbase that much they wont be giving noctis

#

youre too hyperfocused as if a perfect 50/50 balance between male/female needs to be a thing

#

im not even rejecting the main idea of your suggestion i jumped from my chair when i saw noctis and i want more homies on the cast but it went too farfetched when you go to the "whats the point of releasing males then? shouldnt it be just Punishing Impact 4th instead?" part

night swift
quaint leaf
#

oh yeah since we got more females just full send it make it punishing impact 4th

#

we can even switch it around say an alternate pgr with more male characters than female are you gonna complain

#

"since we got more male characters just full send it make it a game with only male characters"

#

not even against the idea for more male characters i even agree i just dont think they actually dont care about female players, thats a bit too farfetched in my opinion

hardy panther
#

from the conversation, OP is thinking that decision is always have to be extreme. "if you're not on this side, you're on the other". "if male audiences are the target, then why not release all female cast like Honkai?". "it has to be full on 50/50"

it doesn't have to be such extremes...

Please if there's any of you want to counter my argument. Give me a more reasonable reason than "WAIFU SELLS BETTER THAN HUSBANDOS"
because that's the most plausible reason a player like me and some of us who comment here can come up with. backed with prob some data from sites like Sensor Tower (i forgot the actual name) that can track the game's profit over the course of some patches. unless some insiders who knows inside info from Kuro themselves comment here, then that's that.

They should have release females only like Honkai right?
no?

I mean it's business and money talk right!?
yes. male audiences are the main target, but why not try to rake in some extra profit from those who want husbandos?
i'm straight, so it's the female chars for me. but hey, i appreciate having bros in the cast too. Strike Hawk with full male members is my 2nd favorite team in the story. i played Honkai and quit, and have been playing PGR since launch because partly i appreciate the "groundedness" of the story with various types of dudes are there in it. from grumpy old men, to bros.

again, it doesn't have to be such extremes.

The whole point of my suggestion is to not let female players feels like they're an extra
it's a hard pill to swallow, but with how PGR was during launch and the ratio of launch female to male characters, that was the intended purpose. changing it to full on 50/50 would require a lot of discussion on Kuro team themselves because it'd affect profit.
on the other hand, there are games out there where male players are actually the extras, or even not the intended target audience at all.

Wait didn't you just say Waifu sells more than Males? In business aspects if product x have much profit can bring than product y then they should have abandoned the product y right?

They started PGR with male characters on it. So it's too late now to abandon the female fandom.

And did you just say the released of male characters are based on cast? Well that's a fact but hey Wanshi and Noan (he was mentioned but Shrek is a human NPC) isn't even mentioned but KG just randomly released them. KG can released any characters out of nowhere, but because waifu sells more than husbandos just like you said. They decided to cast aside their female players

quaint leaf

the fact that theres already 15 with MORE to come already shows that there are still a place for yall

youre right in the fact that theres more female and quite a bit of the attention goes there but doesnt mean the male cast/female fandom is getting " abandoned "

we dont know the sched for hanying, no21 and noctis

#

but yeah the gap between roland and noan is pretty big

#

but that alone shouldnt be "oh kuro is abandoning its female playerbase" lmao

#

but if thats the trend going forward then yeah your entire point becomes valid

quaint leaf
#

just mere speculation though

shut barn
# quaint leaf just mere speculation though

I'll believe that when I see it. Like, the gap between male and female playable characters also feels SO bad because of the speed at which PGR releases new characters. In the beginning they would sometimes release a new A rank character alongside the S rank for a patch, but that hasn't happened since I believe Echo Aria patch. This means 1 character gets released every 6 weeks.
A gap of 5 characters between male chars doesn't feel awful when you release 2 or 3 characters per patch.
Since genshin is being used here, I'll use that as an example. There was a large gap between Kazuha and Thoma's release in terms of characters: there are 7 female characters between them. However, the actual time gap between those two being released is like 4 months, or 24 weeks. This is because genshin releases several characters on some patches. That same 7 character gap on genshin, if it had PGR's character release schedule, would stretch the time between Kazuha's and Thoma's release to about... I believe 10 months? 10 months or about 42 weeks. That's almost double the time.

#

So IMO the main issue with the character gaps is less the actual ratio (even though I would like to see it more balanced, I doubt it'd ever reach a 50/50 split), but more the rate at which PGR releases new characters.

manic iris
#

I mean it's the current trend and gap between the female and male chara which is insane. If it continues like this, yeah they're Def forgetting about their male chara and male enjoyers fandom. But if it was just a trend following a precise story writing then eh, let's just hope for nice new male chara in the future. (and maybe new frames for poor Strike hawk)

# night swift Didn't I just said about "what's the point of releasing male characters?" And ...

DUDE WTH? Im someone who plays arknights and genshin and trust me those two games have a higher percentage of female characters compared to male ones; ESPECIALLY ARKNIGHTS, for every male character they release there would be like five other new waifus in the later patches. Infact it's an ongoing joke amongst doktahs tht the male population is almost non existent in the arknights' world.

EVEN ToF HAS MORE FEMALE CHARACTERS THAN MALE, WTH DO U EVEN MEAN?

As a female player, heck I'd say pgr has rlly good designs for the existing male characters whereas genshin suffers from using same body type based on whether they are short or tall.
Compare Itto's buff model with Astral Watanabe's recent free skin.
Itto has friggin noodle arms and pencil drawn abs in comparison to Watanabe's design where they EVEN added in the nips. Or even Lee entropy's swimsuit skin easily beats Itto's model.

Yes I would like more playable male characters too but saying tht arknights, ToF and genshin are better in terms of having more male characters? Aw hell nah man.
Quality sometimes matters over quantity and I would happily take a single Pirate Watanabe skin over a single Itto thanks to how bad his in-game model is (ISTG Itto's personality and vas are the only reason I still like him, definitely not cuz of his lazy ass model design)

Agreed to this! As a female player, I'd love to see more playable male characters. LivGanbatte

I have a friend who only spent real cash on pretty male characters. Had both Kamui and Chrome coatings and even fully resonated their weapons just because they're husbandos and she loves them.

So don't think females won't spent money in game versus males! We spent money on games too! LivDelighted LivAwesome

the problem isn't whether female players, or whoever wants more male characters, spend or not. of course there are those out there, who prefer male characters, that spend.

the problem is that they don't spend as much as those who prefer female characters. hence i mentioned, money talks for this kind of suggestion.

let's say there are 100 players who prefer male chars (who most only spend on monthly pass A and pull for a character once), and 10000 players who prefer female chars (where 100 of them buy monthly, packs, Battle Pass, coatings, etc).
yes, you guys spend. but you spend only a fraction of what those who want female chars.

if you want to be heard, spend more, buy more, whale more, during patches where male characters are released

That's right! This suggestion is so stupid to begin with. Waifus bring simps and simps brings money. Long live PGR!

To those female players out there who play this game, don't mind the big gaps of the releases between female and male playable characters nor the 50 male/50 female balance.

Even if it takes 10 months to create a new male character. PGR can bring a decent quality when it comes to male characters. Look at the attention to details of Hyperreal Lee moveset or the big muscle of Noctis (definitely better than Itto who wears a buff dude t-shirt).

The only option you have is either just take it or leave it EvilLiv

The last week of Sept (9th) and Oct (10th) is Lee's patch and he's the 3rd highest revenue in 2022

#

Profit wise: I personally think female playerbase prefer to buy more skins/merch of their favorite male character, since they tend to save up gacha currency when that male chara banner comes.

Not saying that you should buy lot of stuff at that patch, no no. If you can afford it, go for it. But I hope people understand that these particular male characters tend to release not by a lot in every gacha game, since, you know, as others said by a lot above, yeah?
Don't worry as they won't forget male charas in this game.

First off here is the source:
https://b23.tv/hzO5j0F
secondly, i think reason why lee was able to do so well was because of balter, that patch definitely brought in a lot more players (so much that it broke cn servers). which even shows in the graph you showed here, all of the patches after balter has a significant increase in sales than the ones leading before it. of course there are other factors being stuff like hyperreal being absolutely busted in terms of gameplay and the character gameplay and stuff shifted completely during 2.5 anni (for example comparing mech nanami to new lee. i would also like to say most of the characters that dropped wasn't really too popular compared to lee, one of the main cast either then again i could be wrong there

#

i feel like this recent alpha patch would be a great place to compare since both are really popular character and both has skins to one gender (lee having chrome as the skin and alpha having balter)

acoustic dragon
#

Thank you so much for the link! I've been trying to find it b4 but to no avail.

Your points are correct, in my case as well. Abystigma did bring a lot of players! The revenue that happened in that patch is super great, compared to Kuro's usual revenue percentage. Plus, Lee out of the spotlight for a while did bring a lot of hype when he was announced having a new frame in CN. Him being one of the main trio did contribute for the popularity/revenue, just as you stated. Although, I think Karenina is quite popular, I might be wrong though.

If recent Alpha patch can be used as a comparison, there are some differences to keep in mind.
For one, on when these patches was released. Alpha is released as part of 3rd anniversary of the game + CNY, thus in this patch, Bianca's skin, Alpha's (collab) skin, as well as Karenina's skin are all SFX and will be at this patch (Resale of the previous coating can be counted as well) compared to Lee's patch wherein Lee was released before 3rd anniv (Ayla's patch) received a non-sfx skin and Chrome having sfx skin. EDIT: I forgot, but Lucia also had a rerun of summer skin gacha, if this helps that the Lee patch gain some revenue.

Secondly, Bianca's gacha skin. The gacha, in particular, have a lot as a reward. Skin + exlcusive BG + BGM + others, and considering the fact that Bianca is very popular, it's no doubt that the patch will gain more revenue. (I forgot how much RC you decided to get just the skin, though) Chrome's sfx skin, however, is sold at the usual price (168 + 28 RC). Also compared to Lucia's gacha skin, Bianca's much more expensive.

#

Despite this, I think Lee's patch was well received, and if this keeps up, Kuro might release some male characters without taking the "safe route" (aka male characters being a Transcendant, and/or A-rank). My point of the playerbase that prefers male constructs tend to buy their skins, more than the gacha currencies to pull the said character still stands, however. (Supported by the fact that Chrome has 3 SFX skins)

Although, sadly OP, it won't be balanced as much as you would like to. Unless we have a solid playerbase that's willing to throw money to Kuro, in any other way such as buying merch, and buying in-game, we might just have to wait for the results.

# acoustic dragon Thank you so much for the link! I've been trying to find it b4 but to no avail. ...

I think bianca's skin was like
17k or something in bc? I just know the price spiked really hard in it compared to other gacha skins because of the bg.

Edit: quick Google search is telling me that it's either 500 or 600 rc for everything in the balter skin gacha. It's a bit hard to figure out how much "just" the skin is because there's going to be at least a few people who want just the skin and then pull the bg first and despair.

winter stone

woeful marsh
#

unfortunately it's a fact that female characters will bring in more money than male characters. Don't get me wrong, I'm someone who is really looking forwards to more male characters, but it's probably not going to change.

If we compare male character releases from GLB rn to CN's, we will see that there is roughly the same amount of patches with male releases (2-3 patches between each male character.) I don't think it's particularly fair to say that CN server is showing that the game is turning into 'a waifu game' since there are still relatively consistent releases- if anything it's gotten better compared to the 6 female characters in a row in GLB (Roland to Noan).

I would certainly like more male characters to be meta again or appear in the first place however, although it is likely...not going to be very plausible unless somehow we can show Kuro that it can make up for the potential loss in sales.

#

granted, it was slightly more consistent in earlier patches, however something that needs to be taken into account is that we had combined patches with 2 constructs

#

I too would like a more even cast, but alas, money speaks and Kuro has to keep developing their game. I would say that Kuro is by no means neglecting their male characters or female characters however- they're already doing far better than the majority of gacha games that appeal to both male and female gamers. That's not to say they're automatically absolved of everything, but it's important to know that money is something that matters to a game company. It's not being greedy, it's a necessity to continue developing and expanding.

#

because this game still has a majority male audience that is attracted to females, so the game will inevitably gear itself more towards them since they are the majority

I’ve talked to and seen a lot of them who frankly don’t give a shit about male characters and would rather they be gone, and it’s pretty infuriating

#

but yea, those are my points

#

never mind I have more to say, whoops

#

The argument that 'kuro doesn't care about female players who like dudes' is frankly false. They could easily switch from having males to having all females, and I'm sure their revenue wouldn't change much negatively from it. But they haven't done that, and you can tell that they put a lot of effort into male characters WHEN they do release. Noan, although a Transcendant, got a story that was slightly less than the entire length of Fake Ascension. Hyperreal's animations have a lot of love put into them and you can tell they spent a lot of effort into him, as some examples.

saying 'kuro is greedy for not giving us male characters' shows a blatant misunderstanding of how companies work. They work on a scale that is incomparable to the individual. Yes, some companies are greedy, but they need money to survive AND expand. If Kuro got enough to just get by, we wouldn't have the characters we have now. The money is being used to fund future projects, to hire more animators and writers, to make better quality stories and gameplay. We don't know exactly how much Kuro is spending on development and such, but I feel like automatically chalking it up to being greedy is an extremely shortsighted point.

#

not someone who text in public discord servers often but i felt the need for this and i also do not intend to hate on anyone
i dont understand whats the point of these arguments since isnt the point of having both male & female characters is just to reach out to and satisfy a larger playerbase compared to just having female characters in the game
also pretty sure the 2 main reasons there are more female characters is because the majority of game employees are male - more motivation to create female characters - and also because male players are more likely to spend on games
reasons like majority of playerbase being male do not make sense since if female characters do not exist, the majority of the playerbase would say otherwise (basically it depends on the game)
also having a larger playerbase is way better than having whales spend more at the expense of smaller playerbase
just compare every single gacha game and you will find out that the revenue a game generates is dependent on the playerbase count or at least most of the time
either way its not like game will lose players of either gender with the release of male characters
especially the fact that if the male character is meta, the company will still have more revenue
afterall most players prefer meta over waifus
basically theres no point trying to bring this suggestion down since its just a plus with no cons
basically, i dont understand what is up with people who disagree with this suggestion

I mean, I don’t expect any sort of understanding or empathy from gacha gamers, most of them haven’t interacted with a woman in any meaningful way and would rather stay in their ‘muh waifu’ friendgroups instead of, I don’t know, attempting to even try to understand that other opinions exist

sterile ridge
#

Don't mind them ail just ignore itLivDelighted

woeful marsh
#

Or maybe trying to understand that maybe there is more to a character than just segs appeal, at least to others

#

VeraShrug but eh, whatever

#

Not like whatever I say will make these people suddenly empathetic and understanding and able to get bitches

fair badger
#

@woeful marsh Just ignore them. They have nothing better to say

fair badger
#

Oh and, let's not get personal here cuz I think it's not really healthy 😅

#

OP wanted what I wanted too, which is nice. I don't feel alone

uncut sentinel
#

as an aside, I think a rarely mentioned factor is difference in standards of appeal. Eastern games really love their pretty boys, and sometimes it fits the character concept so it's fine, but other times you just look at this wonder child and go "dude, what the hell is this, where are my bitching handlebars, dwarven beards and boulder-like builds"

#

come on, how come the closest thing we get to that kind of panache feel is freaking Gabriel

#

so gachas self-restricting the strike zone when it comes to male chars contributes to reduced popularity

fair badger
#

I do wanna see more bulky men

#

What's a panache feel?

uncut sentinel
#

panache refers to features that focus on being exaggeratedly elaborate or flamboyant over conventionally beautiful, which makes characters look memorable and have a lot of personality. That big lug Gabriel blithely styling on people in his fedora and tiny glasses counts, I'd say

sterile ridge
#

The closest we got to a bulky character is Noctis I think

#

But even he looks like a pretty boy

fair badger
#

especially his pose and design

sterile ridge
#

I remember it because he usually is my most annoying boss in norman

#

I liked Gabby he was neat

fair badger
#

mhm

fair badger
#

Ngl I wanted a playable Gab, or something like him. Memorable and exaggerated

fair badger
#

Just an idea, but hopefully this kind of trend for male chars will change. It does feel restricting.

A mix of character types, western and eastern designs may be refreshing to see

fair badger
#

How and why is it intrusive? I'm curious about your thoughts

#

For me, I don't exactly want the devs to force a balance. It's more of I'm looking forward to what male chars they'll release in the future cuz that's one of the reasons why I play this game

#

ah lmao yeah that is odd

#

Aight cool. I see your point now

#

Why do you think it's called soulless?

#

Ah the usual

#

I saw peeps who said the same

#

I don't think it's true though

#

I get immersed in the game

#

and enjoy it

#

Mhm

#

oh nikke

#

I'm one of those who enjoy Nikke, but I can understand why you won't take it seriously because of the fanservice (design)

#

Yeah I get that

Now I understand the large gaps between the release of male characters compare to female characters

6 gaps for Roland to Noan
2 gaps for Noan to Lee
4 gaps for Lee to Noctis
3 or maybe 4 gaps for Noctis to Watanabe

Damn that's tough for female players

I could suggest that Kuro needs to release 2 or 3 characters every month like

S rank girl and A rank boy > 2 A rank girls or 1 A rank (girl/boy) and 1 A/Uniframe (boy/girl) > 1 S rank boy and 1 or 2 A rank girls and then repeat the cycle

To milk those male players who never get laid at the same time milking those husbando enjoyers too.

See it's a win win for male and female player base and Kuro Games too because they earn much money

fair badger
#

Or just husbando wanters/enjoyers in general

#

Cuz I'm one of those and I'm a male player

#

Anyways, agree. At least 2 male chars would be enough
