Basically what the title says. What's the trick to matching up the proportions of a reference onto your art without tracing?

This is the reference I made in Blender that I am trying to replicate in Aseprite

An age old trick passed down through millenia... take the head and see how many heads long a part of the body is. (This torso looks about 3!)

Get a grid, draw a grid on the reference, mark out all the proportions and stuff draw the same grid on whatever software you want to use or even on paper, use the grid as a guide to match up the reference to what you're drawing.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend relying on grids though, they will spoil you and you won't learn anything, but in a crutch it works well.
