The rendering is unfinished around the lower portion of the illustration, and I plan to add color to everything! I’m just working in grayscale to save time

This is incredible!! I love the character design, the pose, the composition
However there is some confusion about lighting. First of all, is the spherical thingy the main and most powerful light source? If yes then the lighting should be placed a bit differently: the hand that is held up should be more illuminated and have less dark shadows as is it close to the sphere than the body, the face should also have some clearer lighting from the bottom. The second light source is also a bit unclear. If it comes from the left and up(judging by the hair) then why is the jawline so light? Also if the light is able to reach so far on the jaw it should be hitting other places on the face such as the cheekbone. Some parts of the body also need shadows that have the same value as the held up hand. Though I can understand the struggle, this is a complicated lighting scenario.

Another thing is body definition. The face has very defined planes (which is done beautifully) while the body lacks them. There should be some muscle and/or bone definition on the torso and arms.

If you want I can do an overpaint for you! Though I do need a clarification on lighting scenario here

Thank you, I really appreciate all this constructive feedback! The lighting was definitely a struggle with the magic effect, so I’ll try to make those changes.

I 3D modeled this same character this semester and I then used that model as a lighting reference, but I think it did me a disservice as thats where I got some of those lighting inconsistencies and muscle inaccuracies from

But for your question, yes you can absolutely do an overpaint! That would be a massive help

Here’s a quick overpaint
Sorry for the wait
Tried to fix the shadows. Also there are some small anatomical fixes like shortening the thumbs, moving the collarbones to the left and changing arm shape a little. Tbh I definitely didn’t a good job to the body as I wanted bc the accessories are in the way, but hopefully it still will be useful
Also added some more glow to the gold, also I think it could benefit from increase of saturation. Though you painted it really well!

Thank you so much this is so helpful! I see what you did with the shadows and anatomy, especially with the hands
I’ll definitely reference this and update when I do 🙏

Rendered a bit more and added a rough background

#

The overall color pallet is overwhelmingly blue so I’m trying to think of how to incorporate a complimentary color

#

I also think I overdid the airbrush so I’m trying to sharpen some of the shadows atm

This is due tmmrw morning so I think I’ll leave it at this for now, a few areas are rushed but I’m making my peace
