@fossil estuary hi this is my study I'd like to ask a few questions on how i can improve, I feel well off when i draw in greyscale but as soon as i start using color I'm not able to organize my values as well also I have a real hard time blending colors, for example in my study when i was only working with green and yellow hues i could manage but when I had to use the red on the mouth of the plant i wasn't able to bridge the gap between the two colors. Also I had a hard time with the greenery around the plant in the vase I'd love to know how you would tackle that, thanks

Here is mine ! I wanted to fokus on lineart this time instead of shapes and rendering. Idk if that’s ok ? I usely try and replicate the image 1:1 but I wanted to tray my hand on stylising the refrence

I decided to focus on just 1 phalaenopsis orchid flower as it made it more manageable.

Overall i am pretty happy though i wish i had spent more time on the initial sketch as the shape and spacing of the petals and sepals is a bit off. I also didnt pay close enough attention to the lighting on the left petal and it is bothering me a bit.

You did a good job at getting the feel right, the colors could use some work. This is something color theory studies can improve immensely.

On the note of hating the art, never do that. You put in effort, you did a good job, and it's definitely a step in the right direction. As you improve, you will learn to love art even more and the steps that you took to get there will look incredible looking back. Never hate your art!

# sudden roost <@722890762823532614> hi this is my study I'd like to ask a few questions on how...

First off, you really got down the base values of the mantis plant, the highlights and the general feel are quite present. Love the blending too. It seems that you're struggling with saturation for the most part, as I can see that the mouths and their contrast and saturation gave you trouble. You can improve by doing dead tree forest value studies, meaning drawing them in gray scale and coloring as you go. Remember to use masks.

Grayscale to color is just a base, you are supposed to draw on top of it and make additional changes. Greenery gave you an issue cause of the saturation, this is something color theroy studies get you to improve on greatly.

calm pebble
#

The orchid pink is a bit desaturated and more towards the reds, and the highlights are very desaturated and bright - but they are not off white

#

We can do some color studies for the next study group since this seems to be the most common issue everyone is encountering here

Incredible colors, you got the feel just right. I would say proprotion wise you could use some work, as this tree in particular was yor pulling a sneaky one on you all. It requires good shape theory understanding to get right, as everyone naturally wants to gravitate the branches to the left, while they should be centered instead. Overall good job on the study, colors especially.

gaunt nest
calm pebble
# slow pine i don't really understand how this tree works ;-;

It's a difficult tree to draw, but you're on the right track! Some shape theory studies would get you there. I do think you did excellent with the trunk of the tree, and the line weight is really good. Don't be afraid to use harsher lines to emphasize holes or rough surfaces.

calm pebble
#

You did a great job overall!

#

Okay that's all, thank you for joining this study group! See you guys with some color theory soon!
