I’m working on a piece for my portfolio, and my critique day is tomorrow! This is my first time using oil pastels in four years, so any tips on:

  • how to make the water look more water-ish
  • easiest way to erase pencil marks without smudging color
  • best way to detail the boats
  • any other criticism/suggestions you have!

1.water is the darkest at the waves end so suggest finding out how the water would be impacted by the horse or ships and drawing a lot of soft! Layers of a dark blue while slowly going lighter and pick the lightest blue or highlight color for the highlights of the water
2. honestly my best tip is to use while acrylic if you want to do for where you used a lot of color layers already but I’d say for a hard paper a good eraser would be enough would just take long
3.id suggest using colored fineliner or other markers with a thin tip
4. id advise you to have more structure on the hair since it rn looks more messy and the front and back hove are switched, you wouldn’t see the front but the back
