#Achieving realism in clothing

Hello. I am trying to get extremely detailed clothing for my characters, particularly in the rendering process. Doing this off of references and imagination has led me to the results shown here, the red being the sketch and then the other being the more rendered. I find it very hard to imagine how clothing works; you cannot just sketch it over your drawing, you really have to think about shadows and placement of wrinkles, more outside of the 2nd dimension, which is very hard to do with just a plain sketch and through imagination. I find it also hard to freestyle and to find a balance in wrinkle ratio. Any tips on how to derive certain clothing onto your character through imagination and using references would be appreciated; it feels like I am missing a core element, so any websites or whatever would be welcome as well. !!! PS the clothing reference of the dress is just an example of what level I’d like to be at, not related to the drawing of the guy with his arms over his head. !!! Thank youuuuuu
