Can I work on my penman ship and line quality with this one ? Since it says any technique ?

All work helps with penmanship and line quality if you draw enough shapes lol

Yea true but I wanna target my line art skills and showing light and shadow thru line and not color and rendering

Right on, what really helped me with drawing lines expressing lighting and shadow is drawing buildings (very easy to add on 'modular' pieces and understand shadows with simple shapes) with a light source off to either side, I always imagine "what if I shaded this right now, how would it look" and then adjust my line thickness and density based on that.

Projecting shadows from simple shapes is the best way to practice imo, idk if I worded that weird

Yea that makes sence exspet I’m not a artist that very often draws city type landscapes. I’m more into natural type, like plants and objects. So i think it makes more sence to practice the things i will be drawing most of instead on something i draw occasionally

Absolutely! I get that 100%. Maybe breaking down things into basic shapes would help to cast shadow, but it all just depends on what works for you

The shape is a bit unmatched but any suggestions for shading plss , I’m still trying to improve my cross hatching

30 min sketch(dont mind the rings). I wanted to improve drawing metals(for armour and stuff)both digitally and traditionally, any tips for better shading and/or depiction of form?

Yeaa I used a HB mechanical pencil, would you recommend changing the graphite out for a darker look?

I have 2b leds for those pencils if u can find 2b or darker its going to be best

hb is for writing more than drawing for me at least

I’ve always just used HB, then again I have a problem with pressing down hard (don’t wanna deal with paper indentation)+ I didn’t spend enough time filling out the darker areas this time

2b is prob better tho

I haven’t really seen 2b graphite replacements around so I’ll search for em next time I’m out buying art supplies

Its kinda about art style but even if you go light or want low contrast work 4b works fine trust

Hb is just too rough and dry i noticed

4b and higher blends better and more seemless transition

Even for layering or transition from bright to dark its more seemless trust

This is my attempt at the garlic reference. I love garlic so couldn't resist drawing it. I really liked this subject. Botanical themed things are fun to draw, I would love a similar theme like flowers or something

I really enjoy being able to watch the speed-paint(draw?), I'm not sure why, but it's so satisfying.... Out of curosity how did you get that set up? (Also acorns are very hard to draw, yours turned out very well, I'm impressed!)

aw thank you!! I like watching and making speedpaint :D (it's a very diy setup xD) I have a level(?) of shelf right above my desk, and I put an ipad on it so the camera peeks out and is directly above my sketchbook, and there's a lamp on the left corner of my desk (under the shelf) that gives light. (i also cropped the edge of my desk away)

That's a lot more diy then I was thinking XD but if it works, it works! The video looks good though....gives me some hope for if I ever start doing tradional speed-paints. Sounds like being resoucefull with an ipad is enough

I personally use a 2b pencil + a kneaded eraser, but if you have the 6 packs you could try each pencil

It really doesnt matter that much. maybe start with a lighter grade and save the darker leds for shadows

when i was figuring drawing in school, a teacher suggest 6b since its similar to charcoal in terms of value. I really wouldn't be worked up by which you should use. Just pick anyone you like.

@leaden sinew also in case you dont know, the ligher grades are the H's (Hard; less graphite on paper) darkening all the way down to the B's (Bold; more graphite on paper)

You dont have to, just use what you like and if you want more grades, get them. If you go to school, check out the art department they may have some extras you can have for free.

My favorite ones are 4b and 6b! If you want bigger range I would add 2b to that and you are all set!! H pencil are usually for really light lines and used in technical drawings, B pencil will give u much more shades, personally I don't use H pencils at all!

This week was pretty busy but yea I tried my best !

Unfortunately didnt get to finish this one in time since I thought the deadline was the 29th :(. This is about 12 hours in. Probably would have gotten it done faster if I had planned it out a litte better and took more time measuring proportions. Made in csp with a flat photoshop style brush and the blending tool.

i will be finishing this one by tomorrow or the next day
