How can I find joy in just value based art over color?

To face facts, I have no idea how color theory works let alone a great understanding of light and shadow. Therefore it really doesn’t bring me much joy when I create a colored painting and learn nothing from it bc I’m color picking or winging the intricacy of light and shadow and color variation. I want to enjoy what I make but I always see such amazing fully rendered art that I think if I don’t try to make something like it I won’t like it. So if anyone has any insight on how I can enjoy different forms of art (like values only) I’d be very grateful. Thank you and here’s a piece that’s full of problems to dissect.

If you want to work on values, instead of immediately going in with colors work in greyscale first. This will show you clearly which spots are muddy and what spots need more contrast

For color the most i can say is: research color theory, but to sum it up (minus the color pallet stuff):

For shadows you want to go down on the hue wheel and obviously go darker and more saturated, while for highlights you want to go up on the hue wheel and lighter and less saturated. You also need more sharp corners and plz for all thats good put down the purple /lh
