simple shapes > simplified face planes > regular face planes > blended, finished portrait
the idea behind this is to think about in 3d space, figure out shapes and them slowly adding details. you can even focus on one stage and draw only in face planes, or simple shapes

make sure to keep in mind measurments and try to find them in the reference picture!

it's mostly focused on face planes and how to approach the study rather than copying the ref photo. I think construction is in this case more useful than figuring out the best rendering process and such if you need those definitely check sinix, he has separate videos for rendering skin, nose, hair etc etc

up to u! personally I think you should study construction to get the most from this study but feel free to work on rendered piece instead. I don't want to limit anyone, do 1 detailed or whole sheet, depends on your time and options, as long as u are learning something

I think you are doing fine with the studies u've posted. it still need some more practice but once you feel confident with it you can move to more detailed works!

how do i explain this

even if i "get" heads to a reasonably good level (face included) theres still toooons and loooots to take care of

bit intimidating, idk if i will be able to remember or practice everything

im afraid without consistent practice its just gonna stagnate

like i learn 1 thing, i go to learn another and that 1 first thing i forget how to do it

and eventually the practice stacks up stacks up till i dont have time for anything else

90% of my art time is practice already lol

consistent practice is important but in some point it just clicks, for example once u practice proportions at some point you won't have to practice them because you are already confident you know them. but if it feels scary that's how you know it still needs some more time

Well, i think the neat part is you won't, and that's how you'll learn new things, approaching things you forgot with new eyes each time will make you discover new things

hii sorry for delay! for hair I usually check the values first, try to find some simple shapes in hair. I think for shadows you can use even darker values.
then I locate lightest part of the hair and add some color variation into light. You can even pick airbrush and lightly use it on light area to give it the 'glow' effect
then you can add some details, I usually choose one area to give it focus instead of detailing whole thing

you already have a really good understanding of hard/soft edges so I am sure you will figure it out very soon!! definitely practice face planes on asaro head posted above, it will help with figuring out those hard/soft edges
also for other feedback I would recommend playing around with color balance tool to give it a bit more red/warmer tones, yours is currently a bit too yellow

just a small side note for form around the mouth
currently your shading is that cheek is casting shadow on the muscles around the mouth which is partly true, however the cheek is wrapping around there so the shadow on the cheek is darker than the cast one around the mouth!
hope it is understandable with my diagram xdd

you are doing a great job, I think practicing realism from time to time can improve personal work since we are still working with real life info even with stylized stuff

yup definitely, I would also add some more hard edges and more construction into nose!
again forms around mouth, they are not the same on each side, right side has shadow on the cheek from wrapping but on the left side there is light on the cheek instead!

yup u can definitely add more contrast but overall complete work!
I would keep in mind spotting soft/hard edges and checking if there are enough of both during the process, that might be one of the most useful things to do:D

you are definitely on the right track, the proportions are nice but now you need to add hard edges and some more definition to it!
pick a harder brush and try to find some areas that need it the most, 100% nose, jaw and eyes!
for hair again, harder brush and add some form to it

helloo, definitely check measurements in your drawing regularly! the spaces between eyes/nose/mouth/chin are correct but it needs a bit more shaping!

• space between eyes is around the same size as one eye
• nose size is about the same size is space between inner corner of eyes
• mouth corners starts around the same position as middle of the eyes
  you can start your drawing with circle and these simple measurements to make sure your proportions are correct I drew into your drawing so it's more understandable what I mean
  you can also check what other facial parts are placed on those lines, then you can figure out ear placement, hairline, neck size etc etc

I did start with a circle but I dont think my circle is "circle" enough because when I started drawing the chin the face will eventually be uneven. Im struggle with this problem for so long and I dont know how to fix it. Do you have any tips ? Im drawing on my ipad btw

Is there any keywords so I could search it up on youtube? I tried drawings a lot of circles and squares at different angles but I don't think I'm doing it right 😔

It's more like learning to draw cubes, cylinders and cones at different angles and then merging them together. If you look up guides on how to draw stuff you'll find break down of how these basic shapes are combined to form something. My best advice is to watch "How to draw anything" by Drawinglikeasir on YouTube. He explains it really well on how to learn to draw as a beginner and then you can follow basically any other youtuber such as Proko, Marc Brunet or just any other well known youtubers

But for beginner, Proko, Marc Brunet, Marcel are just really good as they have stuff for beginners, intermediates and even experienced artists

They've been in the industry for a while and knows about stuff

Samdoesart is also good if you wanna follow him too

I woud recommend just continue trying !! It's a learning curve !! U can also copy a reference of shapes if your realy struggling to get a sense of perspective.

Looking good!! Some of the things I notice would be the ears may be a bit high (more so her right ear), as bottom earlobes are close to the nose level on the ref img. Other than that I think you have done it nicely by mapping out the shades

The shape looks good, I would try to add some more volume into it by adding shadows!

Try to find simple shapes in the reference, for example left side is in the shadow, top part is lighter and right side in the shadow again. Try to draw bigger shapes instead of every hair
