Bump!! And, for reference, him in other pics/sketches
Bump
small critique, it looks like you gave him lipstick because you shaded his lips but not the rest of the face. when it comes to dreads, you can see in the other sketches of him how the thick gray brush is doing most of the work, not the lineart
lineart isn't used much in realism, but especially not in hair, because hair needs to be impressionistic to feel real
so the gray mass implies the shape of the hair and the thin, sketchy lines imply the texture
@pure basalt like this??
Bump, any crit??
he still looks a bit womanly
Hold on ill try checking the proportions
Im trying to do it without rendering in any way. so the shading is hard lmao
I dont know what to do without changing it too much 😭
@pure basalt
how come you want to avoid rendering the skin?
Its more of a sketch than a complete work
After i finish this one ill move on to a piece i will render (cause i still need to learn it)
so what do you mean by rendering? cause to me, rendering is just shading
Rendering i see as like fully going over the lines with shading
This is more minimal, sketchy shading
Im not good at explaining
sketchy shading like this?
Basically. Just unblended yk?? Ive only been doing it with lines
your method of crosshatching/shading reminds me of those photo-to-drawing filters
which, if you aren't a robot, is very difficult and takes forever
True 😭 i dont know why i went for that either
in sargent's sketch, he didn't really blend but he used a much wider side of charcoal to shade the delicate skin
all the lines are different sizes
Ohh
