my result with timelapse A_A_thumb

I usually start with simple shapes, blocking out with one color and gradually add details
don't overcomplicate it from the start, it looks complicated but make it easier for yourself and start with simple shapes first!!

Don’t think I did good with this one. It just feels like I don’t know how to add details. Would greatly appreciate any sort of advice EM_pray

If you are done with the base , you can zoom in the pic and focus on the details

I'm really struggling with the leaves on the left rn how do y'all do it, I feel very stupid attempting to line art every leave rn 😭

# oak valley How do I know which colors to add?

I've started with adding only few base colors and gradually added more for each section! my trick is taking a moment to spot some interesting colors in reference and push them a little. for example the yellow and white tones in the bg are already in the ref but I've decided to push the colors even more to create interesting details with white tones A_A_thumb

So I could just block in the colour after?

Hii I have 2 tips for u

  1. cleaner format
  2. checking values - I usually look for some big shapes in values to create more depth. especially top part in your work is in the same value so it looks a bit flat because of that, I added more darker tones into your drawing creating better contrast. with this clearer base it is easier to add more details and still keep the values separated for each part!
for the plant in the middleground it has some nice light details however overall value should be a bit darker
you can check values by switching it into black and white (new layer > fill it with black color > layer settings to 'color')

all of you are doing a really great job I am happy to see such a nice resultsA_A_stars

I got too frustrated and gave up.

I'm not good enough with backgrounds to do something this complex right now. it's way too hard for me

#

I'm honestly at that point where I feel like I'll never get any better, but thinking that way won't help

solid pumice
# frosty tartan I got too frustrated and gave up. I'm not good enough with backgrounds to do so...

honestly I think u did a great job!
you were able to lay down all important shapes and your work has good values too. It would certainly look more complete with more details/render however if you feel it's too much I would leave it as it is and consider it complete work. It's good to recognize your weaker points in drawing because that way you can work on them and improve faster. Give yourself credit for trying and keep up the good work!! ACHeart A_A_thumb

# frosty tartan thank you, I get very frustrated with plants every time I draw them, so it's ver...

I think the most tricky part in drawing plants is that it IS complicated form but we need to simplify it to have easier time drawing them. You did a good job with keeping the general shape first.
when you look at my work I also focused on general shape and for details I've added only few shadows to indicate form in that plant. If you want to practice it more definitely choose reference photo with 1 plant only instead of whole landscapeEM_pray

Hi, first time in here o/
This took about 5 hours... I struggled the most with the big leaves on the left, since I couldn't do them as random blobs like the smaller ones. I'm not sure how to handle the detail there properly. I'm happy with the background and water though :)
