timelapse + same study 2 years ago for comparison XD

  • focus on overall shape first ( I did a sketch and then fill it with color, u can also start with blocking the shape right away)
  • notice the values, avoid using only limited amount of values - notice how my old study has limited values showing only the darkest and lightest tones making everything equally important. for more depth check the reference and locate where are the lightest parts and which parts are more in shadows
  • keep the edges of the overall shape sharp to make it more crispy. we are working with material that require lots of blending so in contrast to that u can pay attention to sharp edges to create some interesting areas
  • notice how I've used smaller brush and shorter brush strokes only around upper part (torso), it's good way how to create focal point for your work (so not everything is too smooth out)
  • the old work is for fun comparison only pls don't take anything from that one xd

I got to try this

The skirt itself doesn't need that much detail, just notice shapes that the folds create!

I need to practice clothing folds, so this study group comes in handy !
I practiced shading simple shapes like cubes, cones and cylinders, but when it comes to clothing folds, everything seems to fall apart. If anyone happens to have some insights, that would be lovely. 😅

Thanks you yor for organizing this group, I had fun. 👍 ✨

I really think I over did it on the lower part but I wanted to put more values on the darker part but it was quite challenging but please provide some suggestions if I could improve on it I really enjoyed the process but I could not do anything creative from my part because I saw it that I have made it in more rigid way I wanted to add some creativity, please guide

Not finished yet but hopefully I’ll manage it on time!

# tribal plover I really think I over did it on the lower part but I wanted to put more values o...

helloo when I am starting with the study I like to notice 1) proportions and measurements (the ratio between skirt x torso, skirt x legs etc. to notice which part is the biggest/smallest to make my proportions accurate) and then 2) looking for simple shapes that I can draw without adding any details yet, for example when we break down skirt into simple shape it's easier to check for accurate shape!
with clothes study I think it's useful to check fold direction and try to follow that pattern, since every material behave a bit different and that makes it effective way how to depic it accurately. for example skirt on the ref has lots of straight lines and pretty big shapes between fold and your skirt has much less gaps between the folds so it looks like different, more flowy material!
for creative part in studies I think depends on your preferences, I prefer using my creativity in personal projects and focus purely on study in these but u can experiment with pretty much anything🫡

Hi! First time in the study here. This was my attempt, I know it doesn't look much like the reference, it's a bad habit of mine to draw what things without paying much attention to the ref, so my bad haha 😅. I'm not very good at drawing clothes (or anything for that matter) but it was fun, I'll accept any critique you guys have to give. Thanks for the opportunity, and thanks for reading!
