ArtClubAlert WHEN POSTING INTO GALLERIES PLEASE ALWAYS ATTACH ORIGINAL REFERENCE WITH IT

ArtClubPalette general rules: use any technique, any medium and don't trace or over paint the reference!

ArtClubClock this week study ends : <t:1755982800:f>

Black and white ref for traditional artists and value practice :

#

A little bit of theory :
the crucial part of this is perspective right?
this reference is example for 2 point perspective - we can see 2 vanishing points that sits on horizon line.
every single thing - windows, cars, stairs - follows the same rules as the bigger shapes
once we get rid of all the details on the building, we can see that it is only bunch of boxes with fancy details, but nothing to be scared of!

novel hedge
#

vanishing points in our reference are out of the format so the perspective is not as extreme
on this example below we can see how squished the box would be if we would move the vanishing points into the format!
how to find the exact vanishing points when it is out of the format u ask? well-
option 1 is example above, where I made the whole format bigger to show actual vanishing points
option 2 is learn enough perspective so you can guess those point and don't need option 1 👍 A_A_cute

#

so now we can break down whole reference picture into simple very simple boxes and start from there!
Remember that studying from references is not about copying, but learning something
so take it as your opportunity to get into perpective studies and try something new!

#

here's template u can use and build your cityscape with it>:3
even 1 box is enough just try to practice it ACHeart

#

your final work could be full rendered study of reference above or you can keep it simplified and focus on boxes instead! make it fun
if you focus on boxes - extra points for adding at least one detail on your box that still follows the perspective rule!! notice how my cat's heads are still following the line towards vanishing point!!

#

have fun u all ACHeart

omg my boxes come in handy to some extent

oh my god, i did this in my art class last year, perspective and it made me was to strangle my neck

also reminder for everyone : keep the chat study related and if you want to work on rendered study use included ref picture above, with random photos it can get chaotic

@novel hedge sorry for ping but I got a question

#

The challenge isn't just about posting the practice but if we make art of it then posting that too?

I've never posted for a weekly challenge before, but I found something I made for middle school art class assignment 4 years ago

#

Fact that our teacher taught us anatomy back then, instead of doing moyai structures like other classes—

#

I was playing fallout back then, the main focus was creativity rather than 100% correct perspective

novel hedge
#

Nice!! For the start of this practice I would suggest less details so you can focus on perspective more EM_pray

@novel hedge Am i doing it right? like i get prespective blind sometimes so wanted to double check before i continue (Its gonna be pencils today if thats all right)

For studies, is it beneficial to construct our own perspective grid manually or to use the program’s perspective rulers?

@novel hedge I’m a bit late here, but correct me if I’m wrong…when I’m drawing the lines to the vanishing point it follows the trajectory of the original side until they meet?

@novel hedge when do i use 1,2,3 point perspective?

sudden olive

# dire cedar <@722890762823532614> when do i use 1,2,3 point perspective?

Depends on how many depth of direction (vanishing points) you need.
If you were to look into a hallway, 1 point should suffice where the depth would be at the end of the hallway. But what if you see the hallway split in two direction infront of you? Then 2 points should work.
As for 3 point, is more used for depth in height/below (with a combo of 2 point). Like looking up at a building or looking down from a building. There's also fisheyeperspective, which is 5 points. Hope it make sense

Sorry that I answered questions directed to Koi (sorry Koi)... I couldn't stop myself A_A_happy A_A_monster

novel hedge
# dire cedar <@722890762823532614> when do i use 1,2,3 point perspective?

yep, Quuwo already explained general rules for backgrounds so I will add characters!
3 point perspective is the closest to our own view so it's usually used pretty often to make your work look realistic.
for character u can choose any perspective (so it starts to be a bit more complicated lol), that's why people use boxes (or other simple shapes) so they can figure it out on something more simple then body and then start adding form to it! Keep in mind that if you draw illustration, your character needs to be in the same perspective as your landscapeEM_pray
Here are some examples of breaking down figures into more simple shapes! For studying that you would need the same grid as we used for the cityscape above

Thats really helpful
