Try to observe simple shapes, proportions and focus on drawing the reference accurately

Black and white reference for pencil works or value studies

• notice the difference between values, what is the darkest/lightest part?
• check for contrasting areas - the mountain in the background is contrasting with middle ground grass area, try to project it into your own work

my work + timelapse

• start with simple shapes first, even red line into your reference picture first to figure them out
• use any technique and if u don't feel confident with your colors use eyedropper (don't copy colors, try to find the logic behind colors in the reference and reflect it in your future work)
• usually when you use only eyedropper tool the colors could end up muddy, try to add your own to it
• don't mindlessly 1:1 copy, try to think about how this study can help you with your own projects while keeping this sutdy accurate to reference picture
• the idea behind studying from reference is trying new things, expanding your visuial library and figuring out new topics, the result doesn't have to be perfect the important part is if u've learnt something from it

use wider angles with ur pencil if ur main problem is the whole 'i aint drawing all that'

definitely use the black and white reference, start with simple shapes first. u can check #1391507019072274523 message for better idea how sketch it first and then add details to it

I think u can work on next section now and add details later. it's good to decide on amount of details after u have each section semi-done

I would keep the background as it is and add more details into foreground. I experimented with textures brushes so maybe u can try that with brush u are using rn would be a bit complicated

i gave up, the clouds piss me off;;;

i literally have no clue how to do landscapes... like at ALL :(

Use the spray can brush and put it to lowest opacity and use the dark green you used on the right side and just smear for the grass, for the clouds add take a wet brush tool and just spam alot of circles and place them depending on which type cloud you want and then use eraser to sharpen the shape (I just said what I usually do and it works nicely for me atleast)

I use sketch app btw so I dont know much if you use any more advance app

Experimenting with brushes. Choosing colors yourself was quite challenging compare to just use colorpicker-tool from image, so I'm not sure if I got the colors right

If it helps I would try and line it up (though I didn't think of using a line until now, I just did it by eye, so its not that correct either on mine) I also viewed the water as a staircase shape 😊 Keep it up, and good job so far!

Thanks thanks, is there any advice you can give me about rendering and adding texture?

Play with the brushes, experiment with hatching, scribble, texture/non texture brushes combinations, the size of the brush, there's tons of options 😆 Though rendering also depends on what colors you choose and where you place the lighter/darker color, how lighter/darker should it be? (I also see the image on far right, the darkest part is now lighter because of the brushes I used...wops)

helloo I think it look good, u can use even darker colors for foreground + check your color choices so you colors can have more variation and won't appear muddy (try to experiment and add more saturation on some parts or yellow tones, but don't overdo it!)

Is there a way to get right range of colors?

Hmm... I think place down color first, then texture after cus then you can colorpick your already chosen colors.
As Koi mentioned saturation (which is color vibrancy, giving a color more black/white will decrease the colors vibrancy). So my impression of the ref image was that the mountain all the way back has less vibrant green compare to the grass/bushes that is closer to the us.
As for the light that shines on grass one would assume to mix the color with white, therefore using a minty light green color. But if you ask someone what color the sun is most people would say yellow. Hope that make sense

O also dried grass becomes yellow, so there's that too

also u can use eyedropper tool just to understand logic behind the colors. for example your colors seem to be in similar green hues but to make yor work more vivid u can use wider range of colors. especially for the middle ground with the saturated colors if u use eyedropper tool u can find yellow or orange hues there. u don't have to use the exact colors but it's only for checking what your color choices might be missing
