  • don't get overwhelmed with details, remember that clouds are still simple shapes
  • u can see that there are shapes overlapping each other, to achieve depth check which one is closest to us (pic 1, no 1) and so on
  • I am including black and white ref for traditional artists or for value studies
  • my process in timelapse✨

Did @lethal pumice use blending mode?

#

btw i just saw the channel of other weeks study, thanks ❤️

#

oh nvm, i just reviewed the time-lapse vid, there's no blending mode used

lethal pumice

#

May i ask the brush's name, i also use CSP

lethal pumice
# rocky elbow i mean it doesnt but the human eye n stuff sees stuff in it

check the values first and find bigger shapes in them (the bottom of the cloud is the darkest part and u can block out the whole shape)
for details u will have to zoom in the reference and try to draw the details. u don't have to copy it 1:1 just look at the texture of it
also u can watch the video by proko 'how to hold the pencil' I've sent u earlier in your art help post. that way u will be able to have better control with pencil

lethal pumice
#

with this brush u can adjust the hardness so I recommend experimenting with it^^

sacred socket
lethal pumice
# sacred socket yor do u color pick for these? or do u do it by eye

I color pick for base colors but usually u will need to adjust the colors during process bcs pure color picking will make your work a bit muddy. So partly I did color pick and then I was adding colors the way I wanted them to look ( I wanted especially the orange/red tones to be more vivid, or for some shadows I've used more blueish tones)

This part is troubling me

Is it about picking colors yourself vs using the color picker tool?

boreal coral

#

There’s no requirement not to color pick from the reference to participate as far I know

But not using a color picker is better for studying purposes

If you’re struggling with picking colors you can first try to find the right ones yourself and then use the color picker to compare to the reference and adjust accordingly

sharp kelp

distant rock

trail knot
#

Me and my baby picture approve of your drawing well done! A_A_stars A_A_blush

lethal pumice
# trail knot Please tell how to do it... If you could
  • choose a base color (I recommend orange or yellow) and fill the whole canvas with that color (keep the sketch layer above it)
  • now look for more simple shapes in values - pic1 and 2 and try to make big areas in the same color, don't focus on details yet
  • once u are sure with your shapes u can start blending them to each other, pic 3
  • then u can zoom in the reference and add as much detail as u want!!

if u are starting with colors, make your life easier and color pick

trail knot
#

Thank you! Will try! But what kind of brush do I use since your brush is for clip studio and I use ibis paint

Switched to traditional as digital is somewhat of a challenge for me to grasp. I feel like I had more control even though I still need to work on the proportions. Also had a nice time adding detail. Wish I could do this digitally A_A_sobbing

@lethal pumice I tried similiar colors of the clouds and color placement, it isn't good and the way I try to blend colors is by using an airbrush

it detsoyes contrast

hellooo as chicken said, definitely put your sketch on separate layer so u won't lose it!
you are right with placing big color areas but I already see that u've tried to add details with smaller brush! Definitely fill the area with colors only with bigh brush first!
Your sketch is a bit messy so make sure to spend more time with simple shapes first for your sketch before u start with anything else, u can check pic2 I've posted for better simple shape visualization^^
