I have been confused about art rendering studies for a while now, I see people do them but what kind of mindset/what should you think about or focus on while doing them (I’m talking in respect to color, shadows and light studies, not perspective/form/gesture)? Also if anyone could tell me about the procedure for these studies, that’d be great

as a self thought, I usually go about making an art piece, realising I don't like/understand one aspect of it, then search up a few methods and instead of copying them I force myself to adapt the method to myself, I find it really important that you adapt methods to yourself instead of adapting yourself to methods.
for example, when I was learning how to draw the eye, people kept telling me to draw the eyelids, together, making sure you take each step with both eyes, but I adopted it by just drawing the eyeball itself, then wrapping the eyelid over it, making sure it covers the pupil exactly where it is in the Referance or how u want it if Ur not using a Referance.
