Gesture doesn’t have to take proportions into consideration. It would help to look at some examples to see what you’re doing. More often than not people are doing it right, they just expect their gesture drawings to look good but that’s not the scope of it. The goal of gesture drawing is to capture the pose, plain and simple. That’s why gesture drawing sessions are so quick. 1 minute should be enough for you to capture a pose, but 1 minute will never be enough to make a finished drawing of a figure.

It took me years to master gesture, don’t worry.

#

As long as you keep practicing you’re doing it the right way

#

It’s a slow process but you’re letting it seep into your brain. It just takes time. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

#

Then stop watching videos. You need to be relaxed. You’re putting too much pressure on yourself by expecting a certain result

#

Have you tried doing gesture on paper?

#

I find it way easier than on a tablet

#

Paper is much more direct, the feedback on your hand is much better. After all it’s about “feeling” the gesture and letting it flow out of your hand if that makes sense.

If you want you can show me and I can give you pointers. We’re not here to judge 😊
