Attempting to draw a character who has veins of red energy flowing through him and a black aura fuming from his body. Trying to give an overall eerie appearance. But I feel the character doesn’t pop out enough from the fumes. Feedback and advice would be much appreciated.

I say either make the character darker, make him more red overall with the veins being a little lighter maybe, or have the background be not white. Maybe have the background be red like the veins(if you go with this make the character and aura darker as well) heres some screenshots of an inspo pinterest board i have for one of my characters to hopefully give you a better idea of what im talking about

These are great references. I’ll try to implement some of these ideas and play around with them later tonight. Thank you!

I would suggest you manage hard and soft edges as well. Everything soft like this makes things kinda mush together. Try to put the sharper edges in the foreground, or the closer shapes and edges i actually like the composition a lot. The background does seem a bit bright tho, as mentioned before.

Sweet, I’ll also try to apply these things as well. And thank you! Hearing about the composition makes me feel a lot better about it.
