Currently level 13 in Weaving, and I decided to turn my flax into thread. I figured it would take a while so I started some laundry, took a shower, got dressed and went to pick up some packages, then I made myself a sandwich and when I sat down to return to the game...

IT WAS STILL PROCESSING.

I also have the fast weaving perk.

Didn't even gain a level. Hard to imagine what it will be like at level 30 and above.

The answer is, There was no value in crafting equipment during S1. However there will be immense value in S2. According to those on CN, The weapon dungeon will be the last to release, and the charm dungeon just before it. So the advantage here is that life skillers get to craft and equivalent weapon (either smelting or artisanry) and charm (weaving) before anyone else has access to them.
