#iPod 5th gen Sad Face and Low Battery loop

Hi guys I have a coupe iPods with the same sad face and low battery loop. I’ve modded them with batteries and the green m.2 SATA NGFF SSDs.

However they are in a constant loop whereby the iPod goes through a Sad face with the Apple support URL and a Low Battery please wait screen.

I have tried:

  1. Reseating AND swapping out ZIF cables about a couple dozen times (this was my first instinct)
  2. Leaving to charge overnight

However, nothing works and iPods do not get detected in iTunes. I know it’s not an SSD issue either, I plugged the same SSD + Adapter into my other 5th gen and it works fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First try to clear the low battery issue - you can try to charge the battery using a different ipod (for me using firewire based changer makes wonders even it totally dead-battery ipods).
Only then you can try to get into the diag mode and check drive status,
