i have a macbook pro (doesnt have a usb 2.0 port but i have a dongle for it) but the shuffle isnt recognized by the computer when i plug it into the dongle. dongle is working fine and cable is working fine since the ipod can charge. any help?

Charging requires just 2 cables to work. Communication is not guaranteed - your USB-C must support USB 2.0 and the cable/converter must pass the data signals correctly. You'd need to do a test with soem other device that is USB 2.0 and does the data transfer to make sure the cable works.
As for now you are not sure that the shuffle is OK.

i used another windows pc w usb and its connected and im able to put files on it

have yet to check the shuffle properly tho

So situation is clear - the cable/dongle is your culprit. Use/find another one with data lines

used another computer and got music on there but now the shuffle doesnt respond when i turn it on

it has a status light when charging but nothing when plugged into earphones
